I can't take it anymore!
« on: January 25, 2012, 12:41:41 PM »
Thermometer says 18 degrees.  I haven't ridden in a couple months.  I took the bike out anyways.  I ended up turning back after 30 minutes but it was still worth the freezing.  I picked up a new HJC Symax 3 over Christmas and I know its not designed for these types of conditions but it worked out pretty well.  The Pinlock is well worth the money.  NO more fogging.  Anyone else have that mid-winter freak out and jump on the bike?

We are having a somewhat warm winter this year after experiencing 3 really normal old fashioned winters in NE Ohio. We got a ways to go though. Yes, I get antsy to ride. I look out and see a white road from left over salt and decide, "no, I can wait". The motorcycle show sometimes helps but I won't pay $15 plus $6 to park to walk around for 4 hours.

Riding weather here in Central VA on yesterday (50-60) and today (high 50's), no snow yet; did 250 miles on yesterday, mix of slab and twisties.

I've been chomping at the bit to ride myself. The roads here are clear of snow but still white from all the salt that they insist on putting down. There still snow on the ground though and it was fresh last weekend. We got out on our snowmobiles then and that satisfied me somewhat. Although it's warm enough to ride, 32 at the moment. I'm not going to get the bike out with all the crap on the roads, a nice mixture of salt, sand, and gravel.

I saw a guy headed east on 96 here in Grand Rapids, MI this morning. He was on a Harley. It has been a very mild winter and I hope it stays mild. Still a little cool for me though.

They've got a Symax 3 now?  Couldn't they just put out a Pinlock shield for their Symax 2?

I'm one of those "latest and greatest" guys...well at least for riding gear.  Still don't have a smart phone.  They made a few other small improvements over the previous gen but its probably the same thing.  Either way, I like it.  Its my first modular helmet and I'm still getting used to it.  My previous helmet is a HJC Carbon Elbowz.  Loved that helmet but hated trying to talk to others through the chin bar when you pull up at a light.  The biggest different I've found is the diminished field of view but other than that, its working out well.

Looks like they changed the face shield just enough that it won't work on the Symax 2.  Figures.

Living in Mi. also there is no riding when the salt and sand hit the roads. After the spring rains wash the roads then ok. IF it's 50* and sunny. I HATE cold!!! Rain not a problem. Used to ride to work on 40* mornings with heated vest but was able to park in heated garage. Bike gets covered from about Nov. til late Mar.

I got to ride for about an hour a few days ago. It was about 45*F when I left the house and by the time I got back it was 25* and getting dark. I was in such a hurry to ride that I just threw on my jacket and my heavy gloves. My legs were a little numb by the time I got back to the house.

I've been looking at getting one of those Symax3s. My first helmet was the original CL-max and for all its flaws I rather liked the modular style. I passed it on to a friend and replaced it with my Arai last year. My mother and my step dad both have Sy-max2s and really like them.  From everything I've read it sound like the Sy-max3 is much much nicer than the Sy-max2.

I've been trying to get out of Michigan for years but the wife's umbilical cord isn't long enough.  Her ENTIRE family, aunts, uncles, cousins, ect... get together ever single Thursday from as long ago as I have known her.  It just didn't dawn on me back then that I could be stuck here forever.  You would think she would get kicked out of the family if she didn't go.

That can be both a blessing and a curse...
