I seem to recall a post about a similar noise that may or may not have turned out to be the secondary valve actuator.

Wasn't this caused by someone removing the flies and in the process bent the shaft or somesuch?

I remeber a bent shaft thread also but not sure if it was the same. I seem to recall part of the mystery was how could the secondaries be active with the ignition off. But memory is no longer ws.

I'm gunna start a new thread I think just in case someone else has heard such a noise.
I was able to pull the battery last night finally, and charged it overnight. I cleaned up both posts which didn't look too bad. I put it back in and it fired right up of course. I drove to work and had 14.1 - 14.4 volts the whole time. I think my battery is fine, I think my issue is that motor noise I heard the other night. I think I had a stuck relay that drained my battery. It was not the fuel pump, must quieter.

All that shows is that your charging system is functional.  Use a multimeter and do a load test on the battery, or take it to a shop that will load test the battery if you want to know the battery condition.

Well I still have a new battery on the way. If this one gives me any more problems I'll change it out.

Yeah yeah yeah, could have told me that two hours ago.
;D
I'll check the connections and charge it overnight.
How long have ppl got out of their OEM batteries on the 2008s?

A lot depends on the stuff that you draw off of it.  GPS, Radio, Lighting, ect... and how long you drive it after starting IE: do you fully charge it up after starting and normal draw down when it sits not used.  There is always a small draw on it from the memory and the clock ect...   If you don't use it at all for a long time I take it out and put it in an indoor temperature room with a battery tender on it for the winter months.  I can tell when my battery is getting weak better in the summer, if it labors to start when warm, get a new one.  I still use the original one in my 08 and I get most batteries to last 6-7 years but like anything else my results may not be typical.  :-\
