Sold my K16GT today
« on: January 22, 2012, 01:03:29 PM »
Well, that was easy. Sold my K16GT to a buyer in Phoenix today, and I did well on the sale. I put a deposit on the silver '11 C14 last week.

It's amazing what a good value the C14 is at $12,800. Very few if any bikes can touch the C14's ability to dollar ratio.

I was considering a Triumph Tiger 1050 as well, but the C14 has it beat in just about every area...range, wind protection, performance. Perhaps a nod to the Tiger for handling...not sure.

Looking forward to the farkling!

What made you decide to sell the K16? Just curious about the bike characteristics. I wil be curious to hear your review of the C-14 in comparison.

If you want bars that are adjustable and will be more likely to give you something closer to what you are used to, you may want to look at these from Helibars instead of risers. Risers tend to annoy me because they simply raise the bars without bringing them back more. I have risers but usually don't have them installed. It feels odd to me with the bars high without much added setback.

I've ridden a tiger, and no...it wont handle with a c14. The c14 handles like a sport bike....it truly does. Its just HEAVY and and cartoon  big. Every aspect of handling takes more effort, but if you give the effort, it can do some unreal things in the curves.  Its nto like the old days where riding a huge bike through the curves made paint chip off the frame (Yamaha xs11)  or flex made the idea terrifying.

Mick

I found the GT more comfortable than the C14 (who'd have thought, uh?) while the Kawa has just a phenomenal balance of sportiness and comfort. It scores high in both areas, while the 16 scores a tad higher in comfort but way lower in smiles per mile. Both bikes are mighty, and if comfort is your priority (and you can handle the mass) get a 16, no question. But if you can't afford 2 bikes, one for fun and one for travel, then the best the industry has to offer is already in my garage... and in black!  8)

congrats on the new bike and welcome to the site. I'm sure there will be things you miss but high maintenance cost will not be one of them. like has been said dollar for dollar the C14 comes out on top.
anyway welcome
Motorcycle Consumer news just did a review of both bikes. with the difference in price I am not sure how you can compare them but in the end they both ended with the same overall rating

I have both the C14 and Tiger 1050.

For traveling 3000 or 4000 miles in a week, or a long way in a short time, the C14 is superb.

For a long weekend in NW Arkansas or an afternoon terrorizing the local Ozark roads the Tiger’s nimbleness and motor is the preferred weapon of choice.

Either bike will perform either role very well; they just each have different sweet spots.
