Lights for inside your saddlebags or top case?
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:45:34 PM »
I get to work in the dark and am looking for some LED lights I can mount in my top case and maybe my saddlebags so I can see what I am grabbing from the luggage.

I have seen a few options in looking around that might be promising, does anyone use anything different?

Here is what I have seen:
5 LED push on/off

Single LED Drawer lights:

Or there are the Cyron Saddlebag and trunk lights that are automatic:

Yes, interesting. I kind of like the Cyron Saddlebag LED Lights the best of those three posted, but then again, a small MAG LED Flashlight would IMHO work just as well and it can be used elsewhere as needed.  8)

The reason I was thinking about this instead of standard flashlights is that these are always where I want them, since they would be stuck in place. I would however use velcro so that I could remove whatever I get and use it elsewhere as needed. I do carry a flashlight in my kit, but that's harder to get to, especially when you cannot see inside your luggage to get to it.

For the Cyron's I need to be able to find more information or a review of them. I will keep looking.

Here is what I found so far:
Cyron has developed an automatic lighting system that is useful, effective and inexpensive
No more fumbling around in your bags at night looking for items you can't see in the dark.
CYRON Automatic Bag Light with two superbright LEDs will shed light in the bags every time you open them up
It turns on/off automatically with the help of the magnetic switch.
It can also be operated manually with the switch.
Includes extra strength Velcro for installing on most surfaces.
No wiring needed, Operates on batteries uses AG13 type batteries included
Each unit measures 2 in. x 1 in. x 3/4 in.

I just get the cheap 9-LED flash lights from harbor freight. Usually sold in pairs for $3.00. I put 1 in every bag including my tank bag when I'm traveling. They are the last things I put in so they will be the first thing I can find.
Life is good.... At least from my perspective.

What is the item number for them?

It's nice, I suppose, but when I'm on a trip they're so full, I wouldn't have room for them.  Typically, I do take the topbox in with me and I have luggage in one of the side cases so that everything comes out in one piece.  The other side is just tools.   I could see it coming in handy if I traveled at night, but I try to avoid that.

You know, in thinking about this further, I'm going with those below this post.  I think it's a good idea.  I just ordered two packs from Amazon.  Only two packs left.

I decided to order some of these and got them yesterday. When it was dark, I grabbed one and turned it on and found that the LED gives a nice, uniform light over a nice, large area. I have not mounted it in the box yet, but will do that today when I get home. Simple and cheap thing and seems like it would work great. Will only come on when you press on it, but it is possible it would come on by itself if you have your top case filled up enough to apply pressure to turn it on. No big deal for me.

Here is a shot I took of it shining on the floor of my garage (I didn't use the flash on the cell phone camera):

I was going to take a picture of it in my hand (for size) but my phone decided to reboot itself.  :-[

Well Booger, now you can use the flashlight less often if you get these. A flashlight is always good to have with a bike, but this is more handy for everyday trips.

O.k., I was going to take a picture of the light shining on the goods in the top case, but there wasn't enough light to do that. It is plenty bright for normal use, but not for taking pictures.

But, here are two shots showing how I placed it. This will work fine:

This is a great idea. I've seen lots of stick on LED lights and adding them to the bags is brilliant.
