My Connie dose not like cold weather
« on: December 12, 2011, 03:24:10 PM »
Thursday on my way to work the sidestand switch quit, 25degrees and dark. I cut the wires and spliced them together. made it to work. Saturday morning 19 degrees and dark, the speedometer cable goes. It might be the cold or the dark I'm not sure.

Yes it is time for some TLC. First it's mine I'm typing this from Islamorada Florida. The side stand switch I found that the side stand is not contacting the switch properly. I'll look at it closer when I get home. The speedometer cable, I'll order a new one.

Get the sled out? This is my sled

We're still riding in minne-snow-ta!

Sounds like your problems might be related to hardened/frozen grease.
Did the sidestand switch cut out while you were riding or when you were parked?

Throttle  stick-age is real common this time of year too, so lube-em before it becomes a problem. And we are a salt state, so I take off the lower tupperware and douse the whole underside in this stuff if it's wet or sloppy.

I think you are correct about the speedometer cable, a new one is on the way. The side switch is riding over the plunger. I just got back home last night.  I'll pull the side stand off today and check out the bolt and the stand to see if it needs a bushing or a new bolt. We just got an inch of snow last night it's been very warm this year 27 degrees last night. So I might ride to work this week.

Same here, my speedo cable snapped on the way home from work yesterday morning. It was 19 degrees or so too. Already have one on the way from Murph's

I got the speedometer cable today. I never saw one on Murph's site, so I bought one on line. Now I find one on Murph's site, it would saved me the shipping. Now the reason for this post.  The cable the guy sent me is square on the drive end but the driven end is round with a slot. I called him and he said that Kawasaki's site says it's the right cable. The one I pulled out is square at both ends. Who's correct? He is going to send me the one with square ends . I can't see some one ( P.O). changing the speedometer to change the cable.

By the way it's an 1988. The side stand switch plunger was bent, does anyone have one? Thanks.

I've been riding with the problems. I put a new speedometer cable at the end of January. The side stand switch problem was the side stand was dry, marine grade bearing grease id the trick. I replaced the switch yesterday and changed the oil. This has been one crazy winter in northwest Ohio. I never put the bike to bed. I've rode the bike every month and it's only been in the garage for two weeks at the most. Some of the winter TLC has been done. I think I'll add lights next. I think I'll use the faring mount on the steering head as the main mount and solve two problems at the same time. Mine is good yet but I'll add some beef to the mount.
