did brake job today
« on: May 05, 2012, 01:43:09 PM »
started at 530 am. replaced pads and fluid. also changed the clutch fluid.
brakes pads were easy enough but fluid took awhile. didn't count how many times I had to stopped to refill. seems like it took hours..lol
went with the ECB pads and what a difference from the factory. they run much cooler.

clutch fluid was a PITA, didn't pay attention and let it run dry. so had to bleed the master. for the life of me no matter how much I pumped up the vac I could not get fluid to come through the master. I had the lever pulled back, ended up barrowing an electric pump from a friend and got fluid to flow at around 35-40 lbs vac. is that normal???

Based on the evidence here if it runs dry.....yes it's normal.

Yep, these hydraulic systems (clutch, front brake and rear brake) are tough to bleed on this bike. On occasion, I have found it to be impossible without some type of external bleeding device.

I assume you mean 35- 40 lbs. of pressure, not vacuum. ?? Vacuum stops at just under 15 lbs. And yes, it does take a fair amount of pressure to force fluid through the master cylinder from the reservoir if that is how you did it.

:o I was hoping to get it done and get to riding before it got to late in the day. had no idea how long it was going to take me to do it all.
I thought I would be done by 8am, but had to wait for electric pump and finished around 11:30am.  still went riding but not as long as I wanted to. had other stuff to get done that day.  but not bad for my first time!

yeah meant PSI of pressure on the vac pump,,LOL   bleeding at the calipers and slave was flowing great at 10-15 PSI
