I am thankful for brighter and flashier brakelights
« on: November 14, 2011, 06:34:28 PM »
Today on the way home, I took my normal 2-lane backroad route. Today there was a little bit of construction work that jumbled everyone together. Going down the hill, there was a truck pulling a trailer in front of me and we got a line of cars going behind me. Once down on the flat section where it normally gets faster, about 1/2 mile into it, the truck puts his right signal on and I know he is going to pull into one of the dirt driveways along the road. I start to brake and see a guy behind me in my mirrors passing the car behind me on the double-yellow. I look forward again to check my distance and if I can cross the double yellow to avoid a wreck (the guy was moving behind me) and there was a van coming the other way, so I made my way over to the left side of the lane hoping I could get around the trailer before any problems. Unfortunately, the driveway the truck and trailer were pulling into didn't allow him to make a nice gentle exit and instead, he had to come to almost a complete stop. This put me at risk as the guy in the old accord behind me was moving. Fortunately for me, I got one of the aftermarket brake lights that is much brighter than stock and I added the flashing LED brake light pods as well, so the guy saw this and came skidding to a stop on the shoulder, on the right side of me and my C14.

I got around the trailer and took off, not wanting to be in front of the guy, but he insists on going fast and gets on my tail. In the legal passing zone, he actually does pass me (speed limit is 55 and we were all going about 65) and 2 other cars before jamming in-between two cars about 1/8 mile after the passing zone ended and coming up on a corner. Then, he does another illegal pass further down the road to get around one more car.

All in all, he probably shaved a whole 30 seconds off his commute and endangered myself and others in the process.  If there was cell signal available back on that road, I may have called him in, but by the time I had a signal, he was too far ahead of me.

I believe strongly in more, brighter, and momentary-modulated brake lights as a major safety feature for motorcycles.  You are right, there are tons of very inpatient and dangerous drivers out there who think nothing about the welfare of the people around them to save that 10 seconds.
Shoodaben (was Guhl) Mountain Runner ECU flash, Canyon Cages front/rear, Helibars risers, Phil's wedges, Grip Puppies, Sargent World seat-low & heated & pod, Muzzy lowering links, Soupy's stand, Nautilus air horn, Admore lightbar, Ronnie's highway pegs, front running lights, all LED, helmet locks, RAM Xgrip, Sena SMH10, Throttle Tamer, MRA X-Creen, BearingUp Shifter, PR4-GT, Scorpion EXO-T1200,etc

These are mine:

Very hard to get a picture of them on, so I have not even tried.

One more option is the Admore Universal side case kit.  That and a set of modulated Hyperlites seems to get a few folks attention.
If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem.
