Installed a Cee Baileys Euro Tour Dark Tint
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:43:27 PM »
Just installed the Cee Baily’s Euro Tour dark tint that I got from Muprh’s.

The install is a piece of cake but take note that the torque settings for the bolt are very very low so have to be careful not to over tighten.  In fact my stock shield had a stress fracture that was hiding behind the mounting arms. Only took about 10 minutes all up and easy to do as a solo job.

I reckon the dark tint looks great, especially on a dark bike like mine.

Now the rest of the info is in the context that I am 5’8” and have a Corbin seat.

I’ve only taken it for a short ride down the highway and back but these are my early observations.

Full down same noise as before but I only need to bump it up to not even position 1 and around town the noise and buffet is significantly reduced.

On the highway when I raise it all the way up the top of the lip cuts just above my eye line and I look through the shield.  The impact of the dark tint is very obvious here and it is a reminder I am sitting behind what is essentially a big barn door. All the way up I don’t have a cone of silence per se, but definitely less buffeting than before and I can hear the bike’s engine more than before.

If I lower it enough that I can see the tyres of the car in front of me at highway speed I only catch a tiny bit of buffeting, have more than enough visibility of the road and am easily looking over the shield instead of through it. Definitely better than stock.

The tint would be too dark to ride at night on the highway, but I don’t ride at night where there aren’t streetlights anyway, so a non-issue in my case.

Next step is to install Murph’s wedges and risers which I think will lift my sight above the windshield when fully up, will be interesting to see if it reintroduces the stock turbulence.

It's an overcast day so the tint is emphasised.

Thanks for this. It seems that you are the same height as I am and I have been looking at the same windscreen for a while now. You have answered all of my questions...

Personally glad I didn't get any larger. And a further update for you after I installed Murph's risers and wedges this afternoon.  As expected the windshield now cuts just below eye level, instead of just above.  Will wait until a planned ride in a few weeks before I give final verdict on the risers though. I wager if I left the stock windshield on the mild buffet at highway speed may have become moderate.

Standing height does not directly relate to sitting height or arm length.  I am 5'7" standing, but normally sit taller than most people 5'10" or taller yet have short arms (and obviously short legs).  You also have to consider where you sit on the seat and seat shape and height (that last part was included, by naming the seat brand) and the exact position of the grips (if not stock).

As for buffeting and noise, both can also be influenced by the type and shape of helmet.

Just saying- it is a bit more complex than just being the same standing height and thinking the shield will work the same for you   :)
