reed valve removal
« on: July 27, 2011, 06:39:11 PM »
Anyone removed their reed valves and install block off plates?  I know you can just plug the air box to ditch the decel pop but Im looking to clean up the engine a bit.

I did talk to ivan at ivan's performance.  He has a kit that would remove the reed valves, tubing and a bypass module to keep the FI light from coming on.

Just wondering how hard it is to get to the stuff.  I have the time to do it...have to take the tupper wear off anyway.

Thanks

Bypass module to keep the FI light from coming on? ??? The air injection system isn't able to trigger any type of alarm that I know of.... where do you place the bypass module?

The valves are easy to remove if you have the bike down for a valve adjustment anyway. In fact you have to remove them anyway before you can remove the valve cover. But before you get near the valve cover, a lot of fairing, the frame braces on both sides and the fairing stays on both sides has to be removed (and all associated wiring, cabling and hoses) If you do go that way though you will have to do something to plug the hole in the frame where the hose normally enters. On a C-14 it is really easier to just block that hose off in the first place and leave everything else in place in my opinion. As far as cleaning up the engine, it won't make any difference and is so buried under the fairings that no one will ever know it is any cleaner than stock anyway.

Yep, you are right. In fact I have had that valve in my hands several times and forgot about it being there. Maybe the module is needed because that valve is removed and the ECU would no longer sense it.

Thanks for the info.
