Bag latches
« on: July 26, 2011, 02:41:05 PM »
I have a replacement (used) right bag for the bike. The latch used to secure the bag to the antler has the forward rivet popped out of the side of the bag. Is there a common fix to repair/ re-attach the latch?
Thnx

I used some small machine screws with washer and a little lock-tite.  I trimmed the length and then peened the tail-end of the screw slightly.  Both latches have remained on there for 5 years, and attaching hardware is still tight.

My rivets pulled out on a lower hinge. This happened on a long trip while at a rest stop. I used a bungee to keep the bag closed till I reached my destination. Thank goodness it did not split while going down the road. I spent the extra few cents and got a bagful of the stainless steel machine screws. I have done one bag so far. Drill them out and replace. If one is corroded you can bet most of them are on their way.
