Summer breeze.
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:45:02 AM »
I took my stock wind screen and chopped it up a bit  ;D.  I can't believe how much smoother the bike is.  No more buffeting going around semi trucks or large SUV's or cross wind effects.  I does allow a HUGE amount of air to hit me while riding (which is what I was after).  85 degrees and above sitting behind a 24 1/2 "Barn door" getting no air flow kinda sucks :rotflmao:  Another huge differance I've noticed is that the airflow is very smooth.  At 75MPH it's like standing in front of one of those big fans the fire department uses to clear the smoke out of a house.  For around town and short trips it's the BOMB!!!!! :chugbeer:

Sorry, not a great picture.  Yesterday was the first ride (140 miles).  Then I had to go to work :(.........This was shot in the motorcycle parking lot at work.

Looks great. I ordered a piece of Lexan to try my hand at making a 'shorty'. It's getting way to hot.

That looks great! I may have to get busy and start chopping up my old stock shield. I want to make a "laminar" style lip for my Targa shield out of the top portion of the old shield and use the bottom portion for a shorty.

Tele - that looks great.  I like the looks of these shorty screens and the lack of buffeting, but what happens in terms of noise?  This is my biggest issue right now.  Does the noise level skyrocket or does the smooth air make it not so bad?

I think the 'noise' goes down.  Before it was just a roar, now you can still hear it, but it isn't as annoying.
Its kinda hard to explain.  I still wear my earplugs so who knows??

I think my noise level has gone up a tad, but I too always wear ear plugs and in all honesty my helmet has always been noisy.  But all in all my comfort level out weighs the small increase in noise level. JMHO

It's more like sticking you head part way out the window without the wild buffeting and loud whistling noise.  Be sure to keep your tounge in your mouth though  ;D.  It really is a great, simple mod if you've got a spare shield sitting around.  If it's scratched real bad, spray it with "Bed Liner" paint.  Tough as steel and doesn't "Tiger Stripe" like a rattle can does.
