LED Trunk lighting
« on: July 12, 2011, 12:01:03 AM »
:D   I'm looking to add some lights to my Shad 46 liter trunk.  The light available for it from Shad was incandescent and I didn't want to pop for a dim light.  However I have pulled the red glass portion and see that it will be possible to add some strip lights to it fairly easily.  I read a post I believe before the site went down from someone who did just this.  I'm looking for info and perhaps a source where they purchased the "strips" for this.  Appreciate any help you guys can come up with. Thanks  8)

You might give Admore Lighting a look (http://www.admorelighting.com). I think that the Shad 46 is close enough to the GIVI V46 that the lights may work for you.

You might try posting this over in the C14 area too. I think I recall somebody over there had done this too before the Great Crash.

I don't have a pic, mostly because what I did is a strobe and hard to photograph.
Go to a firfighter specialty store near you, or Google one. I took the reflector section of my Givi and replaced it with a red strobe that I tied into my brake electrics. It uses a small modulator that I mounted to the inside top of the trunk lid.
When it is activated, it gets attention as far back as 200 yrds, and at night can be seen 1/4 mile away.
I have shown this mod to so many riders that i have lost count, it is the best brake mod you can ever do to your bike. I also have the blinkers acting as brake lights, and the combination is amazing.
The strobe I have is the same size as the Givi reflector, about 1.25" x 3.25" and located in the middle of the top box , just above the locking hinge.
Hope this helps, ride safe all.

:) Thanks gents.  I visited Admore and also found another site which had strip lights.  I purchased some and will see how good they fit in the spot for the Shad light. Will post some pics after I get them in and on so that others can benefit.   8)

I put 48 LEDs behind the red lens of my JCW Med Trunk.  I picked them up off eBay for something like $19.50 shipped?  They work great!!!

The BLACK strips are the LEDs.  Self adhesive back.. Peel and stick, hook up wires and Rock & Roll!!!

:D  That's what I'm saying!  Very nicely done.  Can't wait to get mine and do the same.  Nice touch with the Kawasaki Decal.  ;D
