Netflix- no more stars
« on: March 17, 2017, 07:56:36 PM »
Boy am I pissed.  Netflix is deciding to do away with star ratings where you actually can control how much you like or dislike things and replacing it with a stupid yes or no system.

http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/netflix-thumbs-vs-stars-1202010492/

I have always been amazed at how well Netflix DVD would predict how I would like or dislike movies on the scale.  Now you might like it 49% but it will just be a NO (thumbs down).  It might be something mediocre like 51% but you will have no idea because it will just be YES (thumbs up) looking just like the best 5 star movie you have ever seen. Of course, there is no way to Email Netflix or leave a message, all you can do is call
1-866-579-7172 and complain and tell them to pass it on.

I don't know about others, but I think this is a horrible change.  I would carefully rate everything I ever rented (disc) or watch (streaming).  Recently I went through a lot of work to download and parse the thousands of ratings I performed on Netflix so I could have it in a local spreadsheet that could never disappear.  Seems prophetic now...

What's next?  YES/NO on Amazon???  Life is not that simple.

I could care less about their rating thing, I just wish they would put NEW movies up to watch.. this got old real quick, as I sometimes will attempt to watch a couple flicks in one night... then, when searching thru "just added" or "popular" , or "new releases", I end up seeing movies made in the 70', 80' and if lucky 90's era... and they "just added them"

What a bunch of bull hockey...
I get soo pizzed trying to find something interesting on the screen on my sat system, because I hate commercials, I end up trying to watch movies... but after 3 years, I have pretty much exhausted all the stuff watchable... and I refuse to watch "tv series episodes" of crapola I didn't watch on tv, on netflix..
Its cheap entertainment, I do give it that, as it only costs a couple bucks, and my direct tv just doubled my cost after the first year, so I'll be dumping them again, and going back to crappy cable, which I dumped when it doubled, then trippled in cost.. and it was all I wanted because we "bundled" to have phone, and high speed internet connections.. with no premiums channels...

Id just do streming internet tv, but ya still have to have high speed net service, and ya can't get that cheaply without "bundling".. bastiches...
I have a bunch of co-ax cable, I think I'll roll some out and connect to my neighbors houses, and work late nights burying the cables while dressed like a ninja....heheheh
Sounds like a plan...
And then, I'll start working on my home still, so I can make booze... yeah, that's the ticket...

46 YEARS OF KAW.....  47 years of DEVO..

That is why you need Netflix DVD (disc) service too.  Lots of non-movie stuff on Netflix streaming but not so much for movies.  Old fashioned disc = just about every choice out there.  But you have to wait for it.

Plenty of good stuff on cable/Sat, but I have a TiVo, which makes all the difference in the world.  You can emulate it with a DVR (although not as well).  Then you can have it learn what you like.  I block most channels except the interesting ones- History, Science, SyFy, NatGeo, PBS, Epix, Fox, CW, A&E, and some others.  I haven't seen a commercial in over a decade.  90 to 95% of cable channels are crap/junk.

Yep, it is a total scam.  You can't even DETERMINE what pricing is on anything, because it is always some stupid "intro" or "bundle" which always expires in 1 year.

Yep, the scam.  They want you to bundle to make it a nightmare to try and change services so you get locked in.

Streaming "cable" TV means FORCED COMMERCIALS and total dependence.  No thanks.  Not even remotely an option for me.  But the media companies will start pushing it more and more.
