Stores I hate to shop in...
« on: October 11, 2016, 04:51:49 PM »
Our local Food Lion tops my list.  Went there with the wife to pick up a few things.  She drove as I had just finished up a growler of Konig Ludwig Weissbire and didn't think I could negotiate the quarter mile to our local POS Food Lion.  We got to the express line and had to wait because another customer bought something on sale that was ringing up not on sale.  I don't blame the customer, I'd get it fixed as well, but the clerk sent someone to find out what was up and they couldn't find it.  This brings to mind that up until a few years ago I could find everything in it and then the bast :censored: ds moved every f :censored: ing thing around and now even their own people can't find s :censored: t in their own store.

There's really two stores that tick me off just about every time I go there....Food Lion and Walmart.  I try to avoid them like the plague but what are you going to do?  I typically shop my local hardware store and pay more, I might add, just so my blood pressure stays down instead of going to Walmart.  I'd rather slit my wrists than go there.

On another note, leaving the store there was a family of hispanics soliciting for money.  My wife pointed that out as we got to the car.  Totally missed that as I probably would have been arrested for what I would have said to them so it's a probably a good thing I didn't see them.

Target     (they treat everyone like a shoplifter)
Wal-Mart   (they treat everyone like crap)
Sears      (where America Used to Shop for Values-hate it that it's not the way it  used  to be)

I hate to shop in general except online. That's another story...

Sears, totally agree, except their auto dept....tried to screw me when I was a teenager, still hate them for that.  But I do wish the store went back to the way it was.  Same with JC Penny.

Lowes.   I agree.  I know more than they do and that ain't much.

Walmart.  No contest.  Horrible employees, mostly annoying customers, the store is messy, carts are beat to hell/loud/non-straight-tracking, the aisles are often too tight, they are almost always out of about 1/3 of what I went there to get, the quality of most of what they sell is low, the checkouts are all closed and the few that are ever open are as slow as molasses.  At least they don't do stupid loyalty card crap and don't blast music.

Target is the exact opposite.  Very nice employees, mostly quiet customers, clean and bright and organized, rarely out of anything, aisles are wider, quiet and non-broken carts, checkouts are always fast, higher quality average products.  Prices are higher and nowhere near the selection for food as Walmart, but it is worth it.  I would gladly spend the extra if I could get everything I needed... but, alas, I don't have much choice but to visit Walmart.  So I try to go as rarely as possible.

a growler of Konig Ludwig Weissbire

Whatever the crap this is... sounds like the problem and the instigator of the whole thread. Avoid.

Considering your location, it could just have been a dishevelled Kaine family soliciting votes. :)

The good thing about Walmart, as always, are the WalMartians. They're always good for a laugh or three.  :o

Target...where men can go to the women's rest room to get in touch with their femine side!
My local Walmart is always clean but never any 22LR and they blast music over the speakers. And since they closed one a few miles away due to product losses all the employees and customers now go to this store.

I lived in the low rent side of an upscale suburb.  We had a Target and a Walmart exactly across the highway from each other.  The difference between the two stores was nothing short of astonishing.  Mostly the clientele.  I don't know where the Walmartians were coming from, but it wasn't the suburb it was located in.  Unfortunately I've grown to hate Target now too.  I can't go and buy a simple bottle of shampoo or conditioner there any longer.  Now it has to have sport scent or magic f'ing spices or what not.  Also I can't just get a regular pair of tennis shoes.  If they have anything it is usually some non-functional type of shoe which is supposed to look nice but isn't comfortable for anything except watching tv.  As long as I'm beeching, why do they stock all shoe store shelves with the largest sizes next to the floor and the smallest on the top shelf?  I'm constantly on my knees looking for a shoe while some kid is on their tiptoes looking for their size.  Rant off.  Wish I had a growler right now.

Anybody watching the new tv show "SuperStore?" It's a parody of a Wal-Mart. Pretty funny.

Don't blame me if you spot someone you know here:  http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/

Our Target store is clean, well lit, spacious, and has some fine looking customers and employees. Unfortunately, other than an occasional electronic item, there is nothing for me to shop there for. No hardware, no automotive stuff (certainly no motorcycle stuff), no sporting goods to speak of. It's sort of a waste for me, but the wife spends $$ and time there.
The local "super" Wmart is ugly in every way and can be just plain scarry after 10 pm, and this is a "town" of 10,000 +\- people. It does have a decent attached, but seperate entrance (leave the kids outside) liquor store.
The local new Auto Zone is hopeless. Great looking store, but typical big box chain. No local owners and "equal opportunity" hiring. Bunch of women that work there and don't know anything other than what the computer screen shows them they have.
Good thing for the local Fleet store. They get most of my business.
This street bike thing is all new to me.
Snowmobiles-I have a bunch of those.

Anything in (The Peoples Republik of) Boulder. I'll walk in smelling of cigarettes and motor oil, and the clerks reek of pot and organic free-range  gluten free (Free the Glutens!) granola bars. I get the evil eye because I'm not dressed in spandex, nor wear Birkenstocks (no matter the color of my socks), and I drive a "Belch-Fire 2000" pick-em-up truk. Cretins...

Currently not favoring Safeway. Since the Albertsons left town; we have $afeway, King Soopers, and Hole Foods as grocery stores. Safeway no longer carries Eight-O-Clock coffee (whole beans, natch), arguably the second-third most popular coffee in the US. Peet's "Major Dickenson Blend" fills the gap, but it's 'spensive... and reeks of granola bars and Birkenstocks.

Two Wally-Wurld stores near, carry everything I need/want, but I cringe about inteacting with the clientele, even briefly. Suppose I can feign blindness and carry a white cane, but you know I'll open my eyes eventually  :o

For those that have dared, what's the best time to visit Wally's?

My conclusion is there is none.  Mine seems to be busy all the time, and the number of registers open will always be 50% less than needed... regardless of how many shoppers are in the store or needing checkout.

8:00 am on Saturday. No freeloaders (too early after Friday night) and the supply truck just unloaded the ammo.
