Used rotors with used brake pads bedding procedure
« on: November 01, 2016, 08:45:31 PM »
I bought a used 2009 Concours last week and checked usual staff plus that valve cover is not leaking, the TPMS sensors provide readings, both keyfobs are available, the kipass is working fine and the brakes do not shudder. Unfortunately, the front brakes shudder only when warm after at least 10 miles or 15 minutes which I found out after buying the bike.

First I cleaned the rotors with steel wool and then the caliper pistons with brake cleaner. No improvement. Now, I have confirmed that I have both front rotors warped by attaching a wire to almost touch the rotors and turning the wheel.

So I bought 2 used rotors from a 2014 zx14r model. I hope they fit but they look identical.  The question is how should I do the bedding of the used rotors with the used OEM brake pads (that are in excellent shape)? I understand that the 2009 oem used pads have different material than the 2014 pads these used rotors were paired with.

Clean everything with BrakeKleen spray, and install, and ride it...

I'd scuff up the pads as well to deglaze them.
