Yet another windshield question or two :-)
« on: May 10, 2016, 11:53:01 AM »
OK. I have been reading reviews here and on Amazon, looked at a ton of pics and think I might have it narrowed down.
I am 5' 10" 32" inseam. My 2010 stock windshield does not seem to bad to me. If it were 2 or 3 inches higher it might be all right. Stability is very important to me.  Lots of wind in ND and lots of trucks. I do not think I would want a huge barndoor type. With that in mind I have narrowed it down to:

Calsci medium

Cee Bailey Euro

Givi ( which I have not read much about)

Looking for a little feedback based on the above info. If the stock shield were just a tad quieter I could tolerate it. Thanks

have you considered a 2015 or 2016 take off? supposedly the design is improved over earlier factory equipped screens.

I have found the 2015 to be a little short for me at full extension ( I am 6'2, no bar risers and factory seat) and I am mostly interested in the calsci  because it is xtra wide, looks great on my color bike on their website, and can retain the oem vent from my 2015 windscreen.

from what I understand about cee bailey the quality and strength is second to none.  personally I dont like the look of a tall windscreen like the v stream, but I bought a connie partially for the outstanding wind protection it promises
Every thing I drive is special and makes me excited just looking at it

I put a Laminar lip on mine and it works perfect. ;)

Hmmmm, a take off may interest me. What is the length from the top screw to top of the shield?

I  may consider it.  I have looked for reviews. I found a lot of info but not many 14 specific. Did you put it on a stock shield? Have you tested it a t high rates of speed? (thats the fun part). How about in rain, does it kick light rain up and away or does the water flow under and over the stock shield?

The lip was given to me by a co-worker that sold his FJR. So the lip isn't even made for my bike. I mounted it to a stock 2010 shield with nylon fasteners. It is just high enough to give me a clean and quiet cockpit with the shield full up. I swear you could play cards behind that thing. Of course It's been tested at 150, and so fun to chuckle in my helmet as I fly down the road in completely calm air.
I have a Cee Bailies monster shield that you never need to raise, but when you haul arse around big trucks on the Interstate, you think it's going to rip the front of the bike off. It also created a bunch of play in the shield, so I'll never mount it again. Like I said, I love my Laminar lip. I have an earlier 08 shield I run in the Summer, to get some fresh air. 8)

Oh yeah, rain. It makes the droplets move down my faceshield, and keeps my vision clear. Almost like having RainX. 8)

I put an X-creen on top of my stock windscreen and that did the trick.  Plus it gives far more options now, too!

The options would be adjust-ability?  The height and distance from shield are all adjustable?

I agree. I liked the X-screen so much I bought the full monte. I am your height and the screen was just a tad short (on 09') to get the full benefits of what the X Screen has to offer. My buddy is going to to try it on his 2010 and if he likes it he will buy it. If you can wait just a couple days it may be available for a much lower cost than new. It is like new condition and has the clamp on hardware, not the bolt on. Not trying to pitch a sale just trying to give you another option. FWIW I think the MRA Vario touring shield is going to be a little short for long hauls but I love the air, adjust-ability and absolutely no back pressure. The looks are just a bonus  8)
