Take the white dots with a grain of salt and just look for a black wire in the large connector inside the rubber boot. Note though that the black wire is only on ONE SIDE of the connector, on the other side of the connector, the same wire (the same circuit) is Red w/ Green stripe. You can connect to either wire in that connector as they are the same circuit. This has caused a fair amount of confusion over time but there is a black wire in all C-14's in one side of the large connector so if it seems you cannot find it, look at the other side of the connector and it will be there. If you look at my photos, you can also see which wire it is in the connector- I mean where the wire actually connects in the connector body, then look for the black wire in the same place on your own connector.
I just looked and you want the connector with 14 pins in it- again, it will be the largest connector in the rubber boot under the top / left fairing cover. Kawasaki did change the color of the connector body in recent years but the connector itself is still the same and is interchangeable with all year C-14's so the instructions are still valid.
As far as testing it goes, I have not had much luck with either a true continuity test (too much resistance) or a resistance test (it varies a lot depending on the resistance scale used on the meter). That said, it does seem to work reliably with the Rostra.
By the way, you have to leave the NSS unconnected for the Rostra to enter diagnostic mode. Rostras are a bit finicky entering diagnostic mode anyway, and it depends on which switch you are using, but it just will not work once the NSS is connected to the Rostra actuator.
Best of luck with the install.

I'm looking for the clutch wire that connects to the light green NSS wire of the Rostra.
In Brian's most excellent instructions from the link at Murph's Kits, he says to find the black wire with small white dots in the black connector.
In the picture he points out a "Dark Grey" wire in black connector under the boot.
I have a 2014 and there is no black connector under the boot, but there is an off white connector with a black or very dark grey wire going into the bottom of it.
Could someone confirm for me that the wire I'm looking for is in fact the solid black / dark grey wire in the off white connector shown on the left side of the attached picture?
Also, is there a way to test it to confirm that it is correct by pulling in the clutch? Should it show a connect/disconnect of the ground when the clutch is pulled in?
