The 2004 carbs will work on your 86 just as well as they worked on the 2004.

They'll fit, of course, but nothing on Connie carbs is ever 'plug and play'.

If the 2004 carburetors are Federal emissions all you have to do is take off the clear vent hoses and install the black (rubber?) evap hoses in the same place.

??????
do you have ANY idea what you are talking about? ??? :( :'(

the silver 86 in my sig line was a cali bike.....it had cali evap....the clear hoses have NOTHING to do with that system... they are vents to allow fuel to enter the float bowl....EVERY bike had them, Cali or other.

Sorry MAN OF BLUES, the only difference between a rack of CAL & FED carbs is jetting.  Swapping them is as simple as connecting the hoses.  The black plastic tee's between carbs 1&2 and 3&4 are bowl vents.  FED emission bikes have clear hoses connected to them and routed to nothing but atmosphere, CAL emission bikes have black hoses that Y together then route to the carbon canister (EVAP)

someone modified my bike prior to me then, as it had the clear hoses, routed up and back, and the retaining clips on the frame to hold them.
Sorry for my bad info... I ended up pulling the cali stuff off anyways when I replaced my fuel tank with a non cali one. never noticed if that port on the canister was plugged.
