New bike with 20 miles left me stranded!
« on: August 28, 2015, 05:11:40 PM »
Hello guys! Picked up a new 2015 Green yesterday from Sportcycles in Rockingham and have to say they are great dealer to deal with. Got her home last night late, so unloaded and put her to sleep for the night. Woke up this morning to go take the new green beast for a ride and got away from the house a whole 20 miles when the dash flashed a big FI and the bike shut down. I rolled her down to an exit and checked to see what codes popped up. It threw a error code 51, 52, 53, and 54 which per dealer is all the coil packs.

I got a tow to the nearest dealer in town and they pulled the side off the bike to check everything. They could wiggle the wires on the ecu and get it to crank but when you shake them again it would shut down again! Dealer called mama Kawi and they told the service man to pay for the tow and give me a ride home and back to pick bike up and also to take care of all repairs, not sure what that might entail yet! Should know more tomorrow!

Tell them to check the battery install... ;)   Good luck and keep us informed.

Welcome to the forum, Fishhook, and don't have second thoughts about buying a Concours. It's probably something simple to fix, like gPink said. These bikes are reliable and good for over 100K miles if properly maintained.

Well that's just  about the biggest bummer I can think of. Brand new bike that leaves you stranded on day 1.

Having a nice reliable ride was the reason I finally went 2015 new, instead of an already farkled pre-owned beauty.

Sounds like Kawa is gonna stand behind you though.

Good luck.

That was my first thought as well. Probably a loose connection.

Are you sure this wasn't a 2000 Dodge Dakota?

The dealer figured out what was wrong with my bike! He could hit on the ecu and the bike would throw a FI code and shut down, hit it again and the bike would fire right up and run fine! They took a ecu out of a floor model and got me back on the road. I put 135 miles on her today and it was flawless. I really do like what they have done with the new changes, like a whole different bike from my 09!

Congrats FishHook. How are the changes noticeably different from your '09 if I might ask?

Seat is much more comfortable and the windshield vent really cuts down on the back pressure you feel when riding with the shield in the full up position. I have got less than 200 miles on it so I can really only say the seat feels like it is going to be much better than the 09 seat but I will find out for sure this weekend. The steering head bearing seems to me to make slow parking lot speed turns much easier especially with the new bt 021r touring tires. I have never been a bridgestone person but these seem to feel real nice while new. Also really like the new storage compartment on the side instead of on the tank.

Hey Fishhook,
Glad they figured it out. Sucks that happened to you on a brand new bike though!
When I bought my 2011 in '12, I bought a connie because I had followed around with a buddy of mine that had an '08 for about 40,000 miles and his had been a flawless performer.

So far, (30,000 miles), mine has been bulletproof! (knocking on wood, right now!)

Hopefully this will be the only problem you have with it.

I bet you'll like the fairing redesign better, too. (Lot less heat on your legs.)

Good luck, and ride safe while you break her in.
