Believe it or not, when not in eco mode on my Prius, it will push you back in the seat on full throttle with a fully charged battery.  Course, not quite to the extent of what's shown in the video.  That launching is nothing new to those that have electric motors in their vehicles.  That kind of acceleration comes with a cost and that's battery drain.  I wonder if it actually has that on the button..'insane mode'.  That would be hilarious.

0-60 in 3.2 sec.

Fully reclining the seats doesn't count!    ;)

From the website on the Model S:

Highest safety rating in America
Autopilot equipped
Available Dual Motor all wheel drive
Zero to 60 mph in as little as 3.2 seconds

When I was a kid in Chicago the CTA had electric trolly buses that I doubt could do more than 30-35 mph, but man could they accelerate from a dead stop. Drop your fare in the box and if the driver didn't like your attitude you could be in the back of the bus in half a second or less.

In the case of most hybrids, the electric motors driving the vehicle are more powerful than the gasoline engines that power them, and electric motors have a fairly linear torque curve.  We have a hybrid Explorer that outperforms our standard Explorer in every respect except sustained hill climbs, in which case the battery is drained and the available power reverts to the motor horsepower.

I would consider a Tesla if the price was reasonable.  If they were in the $20K range, I would consider one for local commuting.  That probably won't happen.

Should be some very interesting two wheel creations we'll have the pleasure of witnessing in the coming years.

Actually my electric cart has been clocked @ 40 MPH and will do 30ish with 2 riders without breaking a sweat.... It was bought purely to ride around our hood and do a little mild offroading.... Best part about it is it is quite and has 4 cupholders up front....

Nope it is not stock!

At the last aviation job I had, another shop down the road had an old golf cart for running around, and they used some old "unserviceable" aircraft Ni-Cad batteries to replace the stock lead-acid deep-cycles.  Made it a real hot-rod.  One day a guy was riding in the rear and the driver floored it and it threw the rear rider off the cart, hit his head on the concrete, fractured his skull, severe brain damage, damned near died.  He never recovered fully.

I was in the Seattle area a couple days ago and a Tesla passed me from Oregon. Had lots of road dirt too so had been on the freeway. Wondering about charging.

Yikes that's sad to hear..... My aftermarket 500 amp controller is programmed to ramp up the speed so that on take off it can't do that sort of thing; you can floor it but it still takes off in a sane manner.... But there are several carts out there that can and do break 100 MPH in the quarter; I've watched a Utube video of one owning an expecting 5.0 stang....
