Disable Automatic Lowering of Windscreen

Hey guys, does anyone know how to disable the mechanism that automatically lowers the windscreen when the bike is powered off?

When you switch off the bike, bump the windshield up switch.

WHY can I not remember that?  I hit this issue every time I want to wash the bike- since I need the windshield up.  I often wash it while running (a trick I was told a long time ago- helps it dry faster and helps to prevent water-logging.... although it is more dangerous) but there are times I want it off.

I want to turn the bike off and have it stay where I had it while riding. I'd like the "option" of lowering it all the way down.

Something different on an '08?  Because my windshield doesn't automatically lower.

I believe it did change at some point. I am guessing that the mechanism was getting damaged by tight fitting bike covers (which would leverage a pretty good load onto a fully raised windscreen -- especially a larger after market unit).

Gen1 doesn't have the auto-lower feature like gen2.  I don't think it has the auto-raise feature either.

Yep.  Gen1 doesn't have that feature.

Well there is a way to do it if you feel comfortable with messing (cutting and splicing and soldering and insulating) the original wiring and can read the Kawasaki wiring diagram.

Install a relay that is triggered by any of the keyed on circuits (tail light, accessories, etc.) in line with the coil (Black with orange stripe) to the windshield down relay so that the lowering signal from the ECU only gets through when the key is on. Then you would be able to raise or lower it when the key was on but it would stay where you left it when you powered it off.

You are aware of the memory function that will automatically raise it to one of three positions (half way up, 3/4 up, and full up) when you turn it on, right? (sorry but so many don't read the owner's manual, I had to ask.  )

Yep...have my windscreen memory function set at 3. I was looking into getting those hand shields that mount between the mirror and windscreen but found out they won't fit with my Aeroflow windscreen so I'm not going to need to disable the windscreen lowering function after all. I'm considering making my own like "The Pope" did with acrylic and RAM mount components. I kind of like his idea best because it creates "adjustability" when needed.
