Installed Backrest and Rack
« on: June 18, 2011, 03:07:13 PM »
Picked up a used backrest and adapter from a member here and found a rack.
Had a friend powder coat the metal parts and had the backrest recovered.
Now the wife may be a little more comfortable.

It looks to me that the side brackets missing.  They extend from the bottom of the rack to the rear mounting screws on the adapter brackets.   I'll bet it is not very strong without them.
Yep, still riding the old one

It's only rated for 5 lbs and I've never seen the side brackets.  Didn't know they made them.

They're supposed to be part of the package.  They bolt to the tab that extends down from the rack and support it by connecting to the main bracket.  I wouldn't trust the rack to hold even the rated 5 lbs. without it.

I'll get a pic of mine tomorrow if no one else posts one.

EDIT:  Here's a couple of pics I found that shows it.

As you can see now, they're quite important.
