Latest on Rearsets for the C14?
« on: October 10, 2014, 08:59:33 PM »
Hi,
Being tall I have made my bike more comfy by a custom seat from LAMM and some Bike Bandit 360 degree adjust pegs. Was wondering if anyone has used rearsets with this bike? Plan on keeping my bike and might just spend some on it to make it better.

The SATO set is nice but $$$$!

My understanding is that rearsets are for improved cornering clearnce and  the opposite of what you want for comfort. That was certainly the case for the rearsets on my SV650 and my Ducati 1098.

Hi,
Thanks! I thought they were to make the pegs and shift/brake levers more adjustable in all directions? I might be mistaken though! :-\

I don't see much (actually nothing) on the web for Concours/GTR rear sets..

The two sets I have had had a small amount of adjustment by using different mounting holes but the overall position made them significantly higher and further back than OEM even using the lowest and forward holes. Everyone is different and comfort is an individual issue so there is no telling what might work best for each rider. I have a 32 inch inseam and leg comfort is the only thing between me and 800 mile days. I have peg lowering adapters on my road trip bikes. I had rearsets on my SV650 track bike for improved cornering clearance but I eventually went back to stock because I was just too uncomfortable and I got to where my body positioning was good enough to eliminate most of the peg dragging. My Ducati came with some expensive, very sweet looking rearsets that the PO put on. They are not comfy but they are not much worse than the OEM and I am leaving them on for the bling factor. The Ten Nine Eight will only go about 110 miles on a tank anyway.

It seems that everyone wants to lower their pegs. I seem to think that raising them up would add to my leg comfort. I seem to get a lot of pressure on the back side of my thighs. So while riding, I tend to find a place to prop my heels up higher. Having a 28" inseam is most likely the reason. I guess I have 3 options. 1) leave as it is. 2) have Seth Lamm cut more off the seat. 3) raise pegs.

I bought a Triumph Sprint 1050 a few years back and it had a set of those MF Vario adjustable footpegs on it.

They're kinda neat, and not all that expensive. They make 'em for the C14 as well, and you can adjust the pegs in any direction by almost 2".

The C14 frame plates that the footpeg brackets mount to have an alternative set of mounting holes that will allow mounting the footpeg brackets about 1/2 inch farther back and about 1/4 inch higher. Might be worth a try.

Thanks for the link.  I did a search on Google and didn't come up with that.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback! I guess I;m good with the 360 Cycle Pirate pegs. For the unawares, when you put these pegs or others on. The problem is you have the pegs down and back or fwd, which is good but now you have to get the gear shift and brake pedal to work with the new position!

Just sayin be prepared to tweek with those awhile to get the best you can for fit! I'm good for now and feel it's the best I can do  now!

I have 32-33 inseam and I feel the same way.  On long rides I am on my toes on the pegs to take pressure off my thighs/hip joint.

Did not know that.  Might have to take a look.  I mounted hiqhway pegs on the Canyon Cages to lift my legs and sometimes I just hang my legs on them to stretch out my knees.

I had those on my Ninja 650 and they take getting used to.  In some positions they push your foot further away from the bike and I like to have my feet in as close to the frame as possible. In some positions your foot is in line with the extender and you can use it as part of the footpeg.

I have the same exact issue with my Laam seat, and he has given me the run-around on it saying "I don't ever have to make adjustments to the concours seats, and the adjustments you want are too extreme, I don't think you'll like it."   Taking my seat into Oregon Aero to have it re-done...

What do you mean about an alternate foot peg mounting option? Is this standard or an additional farkle?

If you were referring to what Lather stated .....
The C14 frame plates that the footpeg brackets mount to have an alternative set of mounting holes that will allow mounting the footpeg brackets about 1/2 inch farther back and about 1/4 inch higher. Might be worth a try.

The C14 does have another set of holes (but I don't think that they are threaded) that the OEM footpeg brackets can be moved to.

So to answer your question (if it's being asked how I think it is), this is standard, but you will need to tap the holes with the proper thread.

Yes, exactly as Pope said. Same deal on my 1984 900 Ninja. Back then we were told the European bikes were manufactured useing the rear holes to suit Euro riders preferences.

Here is a pic of the C14 part.
