Toys R Us puts 'Breaking Bad' figures on 'sabbatical'

(CNN) -- "Breaking Bad's" drug-dealing chemistry teacher Walter White will have to stop making the sale at Toys R Us.

The toy store chain won't be selling "Breaking Bad" action figures anymore thanks in part to an online petition that urged the store to pull them from their stores and online site. The petition, issued by Susan Schrivjer of Fort Myers, Florida, received more than 9,000 signatures.

"Let's just say, the action figures have taken an 'indefinite sabbatical,' " Toys R Us said in a statement.

Schrivjer's petition had picked up plenty of media coverage. Even Walter White himself, actor Bryan Cranston, weighed in, tweeting, " 'Florida mom petitions against Toys 'R Us over Breaking Bad action figures.' I'm so mad, I'm burning my Florida Mom action figure in protest."

Cranston was back Wednesday after Toys R Us put out its statement.

"Toys R Us puts Breaking Bad toys on 'indefinite sabbatical.' Word on the street is that they were sent to Belize. Nicely played Florida Mom," he tweeted.

Using the name Susan Myers on Change.org, Schrivjer had noted the store's "selection of toys for children of all ages." However, she added, "their decision to sell a Breaking Bad doll, complete with a detachable sack of cash and a bag of meth, alongside children's toys is a dangerous deviation from their family friendly values."

On Wednesday, the petition webpage had a "Victory" symbol at the top.

Schrivjer told CNN affiliate WFTX of Fort Myers that she likes "Breaking Bad," the show. But seeing the action figures at Toys R Us was just too much.

"Kids mimic their action figures, if you will," she told the station. "Do you want your child in an orange jumpsuit?"

Worse than that in my opinion is that not only did a toy manf make it; some large group of dip sticks thought it a good enough idea to push it into production....

Speaking of great toys!

Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Laboratory

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_U-238_Atomic_Energy_Laboratory

The Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab is a toy lab set that was produced by Alfred Carlton Gilbert and sold between 1950 and 1951.[1] A product catalogue describes it as follows: "Produces awe-inspiring sights! Enables you to actually SEE the paths of electrons and alpha particles traveling at speeds of more than 10,000 miles per SECOND! Electrons racing at fantastic velocities produce delicate, intricate paths of electrical condensation--beautiful to watch. Viewing Cloud Chamber action is closest man has come to watching the Atom! Assembly kit (Chamber can be put together in a few minutes) includes Dri-Electric Power Pack, Deionizer, Compression Bulb, Glass Viewing Chamber, Tubings, power leads, Stand and Legs."

The set originally sold for $49.50 ($461.43 in 2014 US dollars) and contained the following:

Geiger-Müller counter
Electroscope
Spinthariscope
Wilson cloud chamber
Low-level radiation sources: Alpha particles (Pb-210 and Po-210)[3]
Beta particles (Ru-106)[3]
Gamma particles (possibly Zn-65)
Four Uranium-bearing ore samples
Nuclear spheres for making a molecular model of an alpha particle.
Prospecting for Uranium — a book
Gilbert Atomic Energy Manual
"Learn How Dagwood Split the Atom" comic book
Three C batteries
1951 Gilbert Toys catalog

The lab was pulled from the shelves after less than a year due to concerns that children could ingest the radiation sources. (ya think?)

And let's not forget the ole' X-ray 'shoe fitting machine'! You know, the one that blasts x-rays up through the feet and into everyone standing in a 10 foot circle so shoes can be fitted correctly? Ionizing radiation levels like that just cannot be had at any price these days. Ah, the good ole' days <sigh>.

I can hear it now..... 'Mom, these shoes make my feet hot.... and things are growing on my legs.'
