mounting thingy for the GIVI Mono-Key system
« on: May 16, 2014, 05:24:17 AM »
Hi,

I've got the luggage rack from Philintexas a while ago with the mounting kit for the GIVI topcase already assembled. A friend of mine just bought something similar for his bike but all the parts came in a bag, so I was helping him mounting it and overtightened one of the screws, the one in the picture below, so the black thing that goes between screw and plate cracked  :banghead:

Now I have not a clue what this part might be called so I can order it. Can somebody help me? So far I found it as part of the kit that Givi sells, but I'd like to buy just this particular part  :-\

Have you tried calling the manufacturer?

That looks like my rack, but I use the SW-Motech kits which are slightly different. I don't recognize the aluminum washer under the post, looks like it is needed to change the height. I found the Givi parts to be too short for use on my rack and this looks like the washer is to compensate for that height problem.  I can break up a set and send two SW-Motech parts so they will be the same, however, I think the height might be different. What's the rear latch like? Does it have a similar spacer under it?

Sorry I can't help, much like you, 'thingy' is the technical term I would use to describe it.

Spacer mushrooms?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIVI-Z125-MOTORCYCLE-MONORACK-MONOKEY-LUGGAGE-PLATE-RACK-SPACERS-MUSHROOMS-PAIR-/400684199883?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5d4aa3afcb

Google- Givi z125  . They are available in metal or plastic. Probably less chance of cracking the plastic ones.

@Jim,
yeap, but try to describe these things in German on the phone...  :banghead:
alternative b) was to contact the Italians. See?

@Phil,
yes, it is your rack, and after I posted here I started doubting of myself. I'm not 100% sure that the kit were already mounted on it when I got it  :-\
Regarding the extra spacers, they are there because the mushroom seats on the lower "slit" on the rack. They are exactly as thick as the difference in height between the black surface and the aluminium surface in the styles A and B of your rack (I have the C). Now that I think a bit harder, I'm pretty positive everything was already mounted and I only had to bolt it to the bike. About sending them, it's great of you to offer, but it's too much logistics for the problem at hand. I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction to look for them here in Europe. I think I prefer to kick myself in the testicles than getting another notice from the Zoll (German customs) and having to show up there to pick up the parts.

Yeap, "GIVI mushroom thingy" seems the right engineering term...

The Italian said "Sorry I can't help you" .
The Canadian (me) supplied you with a part number, a photo and a supplier in England!

If you can't find the Givi parts, SW-MOTECH is a German Co., and I use their parts. The part you need is called a "fuhrungsbolzen" (with an umlaut over the first U) part no. KFT.00.117.006B.  And you thought "Thingy" was a technical term!
Their phone no. is +49 (0) 64 25/8 16 8-00 (At least that's what's on their instruction sheet)
I used Givi parts several years ago and this may have been something I supplied. If you don't find them, let me know and I'll send some as a "gift" to confuse the customs folks.
