roadside assistance mystery...
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:31:50 PM »
I bought my c14 last year and the dealer said it came with roadside assistance. Two weeks later my battery died and I called for a tow...they said I was covered and the tow would be there soon... who I called, I do not know! ROK says I'm not a member and the good times whatever that comes with the bike doesnt do roadside...any ideas on who i may have called or who i might be a member with?? My dealer doesnt even know....thanks

If you are a member of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) you get full coverage, except for towing from an accident.
They will tow any of your vehicles and they go to bat for us against the law makers who would stop us from riding.
  Good deal.

Look on your cell phone for outgoing calls made on the date of your tow. Bet you find the number you called.

Yes, did you see me?

No this was just in preparation for a long trip. I couldn't check the number because it was last summer and mine phone hath not the reach.

I figured it out, I think, I have progressive roadside...pretty sure they're not who sent the truck last time. We may never know, thanks for the help!

AMA, ROK, and IIRC some insurance companies offer roadside assistance. Could have been any one of them.

Don't know who you called but ROK Rocks.  It's about $30 to join and they have great roadside assistance.... ;D

+1  ...as a member benefit, COG members only pay about $20/yr for ROK.

I think I saw this somewhere but humor my ignorance. Does ROK only cover my bike for roadside? So then I would have to still pay AAA for my truck?

WELL..yep, if you are silly enough to spend money on AAA... imho they are the worst excuse ever for "assistance".

best bet is AMA MoTow, covers ALL vehicles in the household, even trailer, for any reason.

AAA will take me 100 miles and AMA will take me 35 miles....hmmmm. I may be able to make up the difference of an overage charge on the cheaper annual dues though.

Thanks for the info,

I just checked my Progressive policy. Yep: $10 per year added to premium for "Roadside Assistance". A close reading of the policy, Part V, Roadside Assistance, reveals that "Trip interruption coverage has been added as an optional coverage for food, lodging, and alternative transportation in the event of a disablement." Just a heads up... they say that, but when you are stuck, and you make that 2 am call, be prepared to bend over...
I've been b'fd by them on no less than 6 different occaisions of that scenario. No joy. And after 20 calls per instance, I told them to shovit and refund my money, as the last occurance was 20 days after I paid them ( had them for 4 years back then).
They can .... pound salt.... in my opinion. Everytime they left me high and dry, on the side of the road.
F'm.
I had motow pick up my truck, and haul it 45 miles, w/o a charge. They showed up within 1/2 hr, and didn't flinch. I've used them forother 4wheel hauls on 4 other occaisions, with the same result.
Motow: 5 for 5
AAA : 0 for 6

I have a garmin, and don't need their trip maps.

I thought AMA uses Road America? (I have AMA) RA is great, and tow companies recommend them for actually paying them fairly. AAA pays crap, and the tow companies hate them....hence the looong want times etc.

When I was with Geico, they told me they'd tow to the nearest repair center, regardless of distance. Living in NV where the nearest shop might be a few hundred miles away, that's pretty good.

AAA is my best friend. Had it for over 20 years. I get 200 miles on cars or 100 miles on bikes and I have done 2- 2 day tows for 400 miles total  all free. I have never had an issue and they are great.
Rok- 35 miles  or closet dealer. AMA- sorry..
Another thing thats cool is my son is in Canada and he is on my plan. Instead of 100km's(CAA)  he gets 200 miles.

I have had excellent service from AAA.  Two MC flatbed tows (why I don't have that bike any more),
both within 30 minutes, and a car tow also within the last year or so.
