I went a tad slower (9.95) with a little more MPH (144.86), but I was at stock ride height, no strap, and 40psi of air in both tires. Honestly, it had a 9.8-9.7 in it if I could have got some more seat time... that pass was only a 1.74 60'. Not bad for a 675lb bike on pump gas. Strapped and lowered I have no doubt it would have gone faster AND quicker. FWIW, I had no problems with wheelies out at the drag strip, so long as I got out of the hole cleanly.
By all means, buy (or borrow) any ZX you like and try to go cut 9 second ET's. Just let us know how it goes. And for those of you that CAN do that: add 200lbs, a tall windscreen, handlebar risers, a comfy seat, stock gearing, and a few sadlebags and try it again. I could 'grudge out' a turbo C14 and put it in the low 9's/high 8's, but THAT is actually kinda silly.... if that were your goal it would indeed make more sense to sart with a ZX.
A turbo C14 is a plain amazing bike not because it's "kinda slow" for a turbo bike, but because it's "kinda quick" compared to an open-class supersport.
The "why" lies within the whole reason most of us own a C14: It's comfy and capable all-round on the street. Having exactly the same bike but slightly quicker than a stock ZX10R? Talk about cake and eating it too.
