It has union in it and written all over it.  I defeat robo calls with ease, ringer is set for 2 rings and straight to the answering machine.  If I know who is calling I pick up, if not?  Once the machine starts, the robo end hangs up.

Almost the same here- 4 rings which is plenty of time to review caller ID.

But what really frosts my pumpkins is the fact that I pay to maintain a telephone service which others use, in seeking profit, to torture me. I get 'bottom feeders' (telephone solicitations) at some really impressive times too, like Sunday night at 9:30 PM. Occasionally they holler into the answering machine because.... well, I don't know why- maybe they think they can get me to do what the phone ringer could not (answer the phone)? I am currently using Vonage and while happy enough with the service and price, they do not provide any kind of call blocking service based on telephone number. My local cable co., COX, does seem to be offering this and I have to say, that one feature alone might push me toward using COX.

I listen to the robot, then hit 1 to talk to the human.  The conversation then goes like this:

"Listen up you f$*#*  #$*!head.  You're breaking a ton of f&^%ing laws and you are a worthless f^&#ing camel f$%#er and I'll crawl through this phone and $^#%$# you and all your kids and your %^$$ dog too."

Sometimes I even get nasty.

All at as high a decibel rating as my lungs can churn out, which is pretty impressive.

I actually enjoy it. I like to mess with their heads.

An easy one is to try to keep them on the phone waiting as long as possible.

Them: "Is Stephen there?"
Me (I'm actually Stephen): "One moment"
Me in the back ground: "Steve, its for you"
Me 20 seconds later back ground: "STEVE, GET THE PHONE"
Me 20 seconds later in the phone: "Yeah he's coming, 1 minute"
Another 20 seconds: "just another few seconds"
repeat until they finally hang up

Calls I don't like I just use call blocking that is provided by my phone. One ring and done.

My biggest problem is when they come up on the caller ID as "Private Caller" or "Out of Area".  At the very least, that should be illegal.  Their caller ID should have to show who they are.

My workplace also comes up this way, and I can't miss those calls.

For some of us, bedtime is 8am.  So calls during the day really suck.  It's annoying, but I can understand it, when it is a company I do business with that needs to contact me.  They don't know that I need to sleep at those times.  But when it is the guy with the Indian/Pakistani accent named "Jim" or "Steve"  :o calling me for stupid stuff, it gets me pissed off.
