Did the Decel Popping Mod
« on: October 03, 2013, 02:24:58 PM »
I have the full Area P exhaust on my 2008 which was on the bike when I bought it a year and a half ago. The pipe has always irritated the hell out of me and if I spent any amount of time on it, it was almost unbearable without earplugs. The decel popping was so bad that it would sound like a shotgun being fired. I engine brake a lot so this was just unacceptable. I finally got around to doing the mod to eliminate the popping. Everything went easy and the longest part of the procedure is getting all the plastic on and off. I've been riding it for a few days now and thankfully the pipe seems to have a little different tone to it. Just enough that it is no longer annoying. The popping is completely gone! I also notice that the engine braking seems to be less abrupt. It also seems to be less buzzy. So far I'm very happy with the results.

I wonder why some bikes have the pop and others don't?  Mine doesn't pop at all that I've heard.  I only have the one can, though.

I have a full Muzzy set-up and I did the decel popping mod as well. It still does it some, but I don't know what it would of been like without doing the mod since I did it the same time I installed the new exhaust. I wish I could get rid of it completely. I may have to send my ECU to Guhl this winter to get it checked out, since that other guy did my re-flash.

I hate excessive popping. My Leo Vince slip on has no popping with the silencer in but if I take it out, too much popping. The next time I have the plastic off, I intend to block the pair valve hose. If it helps with full cat-less exhaust I'm hoping it will eliminate popping with my slip on.

I like the popping, it scares the deer (and other animals) around here, less worry about running into one.
