New old guy on board
« on: September 17, 2013, 07:17:44 PM »
  New guy finally on board.

Went ahead and scratched the itch.  Bought a nice 09 Concours last week.

Black ( the faster ) with no abs or traction control.  No linky brakes either.

All stock as far as I can tell except for the tall Cee Bailey shield and the Givi/Kawasaki top box.  Still got the log truck muffler on it.  That thing is huge--and quiet.  I like quiet and I can't see it when I'm riding.

Put a couple hundred miles on it this weekend.  I can already see some Heli horizons in the near future as my right hand was going numb pretty quickly.

That and somewhere else to put my feet every now and then and I think it will be pretty comfortable.

Let the farkling begin.     Just don't tell my wife.

Welcome phoneman! In 2010 Kawasaki figured out that to get the most speed out of this bike they needed to offer it in blue. You have heard of a "blue streak" haven't you?

I've heard of a 'blue streak' and a 'silver streak'. What's that leave the guys with the brown (root beer) bikes?    :o

ahh, another new old guy.  I didn't see an intro thread, so glad someone posted up.

I too got a Black 09 last week.  Has the V stream windshield and Two Brothers exhaust.  Aside from the stock seat getting too close and personal with the jewels, I'm loving it.

I gotta stay nuetral on the fastest colour as my ZZR is Silver.   ::)

I'm not sure which color is fastest, but anyone with a sense of history knows that real Kawasaki's are Root Beer color!

Welcome indeed!!  I, for one, am sticking with my previous explanation: "Neutron Silver arrived first, so therefore MUST be the fastest.  Defy that logic.  Well? Go ahead.

You have chosen the finest machine there is to choose, Sir!

[I had a KZ1000 back around ' 77 or '78.  Green with gold pinstriping.  Vetter fairing, sidecases and tail trunk.  Even had am/fm radio with 8 track tape player in the dash.  Those were the days :)/quote]

I still have mine, a 1974 Z-1 with over 130,000 miles on it. It will start with one kick or a push on the button. It still has the original clutch, dual points, shocks and the transmission and engine have never been touched except valve adjustments.. It never broke down or cost me anything except for oil, tires and brakes.  I bought it new when I was 21 and ran all day and nite at redline a lot- everyone tried to beat it, but it ruled the road for many summers in upstate N.Y.  My favorite bike of all time, and the reason I still buy Kawasaki's.

I'm on my 3rd Z1 which is down for repairs after my daughters B/F over rev'ed the 37 year old valve springs and bent valves.

73 was a good year for the Z1 but I believe the 74 and 75's had just enough refinement in the timing advancement to make them a tad bit faster.

As much as I love the old Z1, it handles like a log truck compared to the C14
I don't always ride a street bike. But when I do, it's a Concours. Ride safely my friend.
