Wow.  You just can't plan on everything.  Maybe I'll attach a big-ass ground wire to my Shoei. :o

We had a rider struck and killed by lightening in the Norfolk area a few years back.  I've had a brush with it myself.  I was stopped at an intersection and I felt like I put my left hand into 120v socket. By the time I realized what was happening I heard a tremendous bang, said oh  :censored: , took my hand off the left bar, and then went to McDonalds for about an hour until the storm passed.

I remember years ago, a rider here in CO that was hit by a bolt... left a nice little hole in the freeway too.

Found the article...

WESTMINSTER, Colorado (AP) -- A motorcyclist died after he was struck by lightning while riding in rush hour traffic between Denver and Boulder, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing a flash of light shortly before the motorcyclist struck the center divider on U.S. 36 Wednesday, police spokesman Tim Read said.

Gary Missi, 46, of Longmont was pronounced dead at the scene.

A coroner's investigation was under way to determine whether the lightning bolt, the collision or something else caused his death, Read said.

The lightning blasted a 4-inch-deep hole in the highway and sent chunks of asphalt hurtling across the highway.

about 9 years ago, me, Guy B Young, and Clyde Watson were on our way to the North/South ride at Russel Flemming's, travelling out rt 1 near spotsyvania, and ran into a really energetic electrical storm, it started dropping bolts every 3 seconds for about 5 miles, after the first one hit about 500 ft from us, we all ducted down realllllly low, and "got small", and all of us wicked up the throttle for all she was worth.... rode out of the storm 5 miles down the road, but we had at least a dozen hits along both sides of us all.... man, being the tallest object around sucked at that point!!!
talk about "pucker factor...."  I think all 3 of us were pulling our undies out of our cheeks at the first stop...

I had a close call as a kid riding home from high school. I heard a deafening bang while at the same time being blinded as if somebody set off a camera flash right in my face. Very nerve racking and disorienting while riding. I got home and saw on the news where lightening had just struck near the intersection I had just ridden through.   :o
