On vacation, EU style
« on: August 28, 2013, 03:03:43 PM »
Had a swell time at the GCE rally in Norway last week. Expensive (think $10 beer and $10/gal gas), but the roads and scenery have no equal. Pix when I return.

Currently in Munich, had dinner with Martin (on the forum) and a few of his scooter friends. Rode the bikes downtown (center downtown) for the grub. 25' wide streets cars parked both sides. Scooters parked on sidewalk, bicycles parked wherever they'd fit and not impede traffic (foot or motor vehicle). Not to forget two way MOVING traffic. If I told you we blew down the streets at 60-70 km/hr you probably wouldn't believe me. If I told you we were passed on occasion too, probably wouldn't believe that either.

And on my drive down he autobahn to get to Munich I was driving 160-180 and was passed like I was standing still, you might not believe that either.

If you think I'm in fear riding a borrowed scooter here, that's the furthest thing for my mind. Missing an exit (and they are short) is more/less my biggest worry. The drivers here make any driver in the USA look like a kindergarten drop out. Traffic here friggin moves, there are no "blue hairs and hats" driving a Luxo-Barge in the left lane with their right turn signal on. Can't say I've seen an accident either, been here a week and 4-5,000 km.

Food is great, beer is exceptional, and the roads and scenery are pretty cool too :)

Back in USA sometime soon.

I believe.
I did the EU vacation years ago, they certainly do know how to drive.
Memories of the autobahn :) :)

A yamaha Diversion, 900cc. Very much like the c10 in the handling department, gets a little mushy around 150kmh. Had it up to 190 on the autobahn... In a straight stretch ;) needs a sixth gear.

Off to the alps in a few. Funny, well hit Germany, Austria, and Italy in the same day. EU is cool for bikers.
