Carrying your go to items when riding......
« on: July 19, 2013, 08:52:58 AM »
Curious to see if you guys/gals have a neat way of carrying your go to items like your wallet, cards, extra keys, registration, small pistol,  Etc......while riding...

I have a few pockets on my riding gear jacket and pants, but I am looking for maybe a belt drop rig attached to the leg, or a case other than a fanny pack or a backpack!  and I don't want to use the tank bag....

I was given one of these as a gift;

Used it couple times, at worked well.  But, I prefer using a tank bag, so now it's buried somewhere in the house, whereabouts unknown...

Thanks for that Taichimoto link, Sgt Mac.  That is exactly what I've been thinking of for another purpose, but it will be perfect.  I'll order one tomorrow.

No problem, I have a friend with a bit of a fetish for their leather  :o , travels quite a bit for work and any time he goes to Japan, comes back with a new bit of gear.

Don't have a source, just an opinion on this Id like to mention.
I'd prefer something like a reinforced fanny pack that wears around your waist.
Maybe has a quick open compartment/flap for some "need fast" items.
My thought is it would not place hard items near your chest or under your arm where it could break ribs in an accident.

Ride safe, Ted

My overpants have pockets in the same place as jeans, I use those, and my tank bag. The fanny pack or the tachimoto screams pistol to most folks, not that I care but something to think about if you use it, just saying.

Many adventure style jackets have ample storage for everything you are wanting to store.

Yeah away from the ribs and I prefer off the hips so I can still reach there when riding.  I am use to the pockets on my jackets and pants, but I want the stuff down lower.  And keep the pockets clear.   If I drop off the jacket for a breather when stopped, I don't wanna have all my stuff in the jacket and have to worry about it.  And I want the "pouch" to have some substance to it so anything  (pistol) in there doesn't imprint to the outside to someone.  And I can securely close it and not worry about stuff falling out.

May have to make something out of leather?????  I'll keep looking and not buy the first thing that comes along.....I may even look at a very small tank bag I have seen someplace that doubles as a leg drop pouch...just can't find yet..

Love my Shad top case and my Dowco tank bag for all the things like that, but my pistol is "always" in my pocket or on my person.  :)

My wife uses our Givi 46L top case for her purse and 'go to' items when we travel.

Some of you missed the point...I want something that will not be on the bike...If I leave the bike I want my wallet and pocket stuff on me, not in the bike cases or my pockets.  I have seen the results of someone taking a spill with keys in their pockets.....

The leg drop pouch is the trick....now just to find one that I like and feel secure about.

When I ride, especially on a trip I keep it simple.  I use a front pocket wallet that only contains the items I may need on the trip.  Example, cash, one or two credit cards, insurance (medical and bike) cards, and so on.  I leave all the other stuff at home.  In my state we do not need to carry the registration, so that is not an issue.  All the other stuff I carry in a Giva tail trunk.

Now for my cell phone, it all depends.  If I am wearing a shirt where I can securely put it in a pocket, then I put it there, if not, then it goes in the trunk.  As for a weapon, mine is usually in the trunk.  I rarely carry it on my person when I am riding.  I know all the arguments, but that is just what I do.

I do not like putting a weapon or wallet in a jacket pocket.  Too many times I have left the jacket on the bike while I went to the restroom and such forgetting that it was there.

Everyone has their own ways, but this is how I do it, and it has worked for me for the last 40 years, so I think I will stay with it for a while longer.
