I have owned the first series teamset, and now the G9 Powerset, which I've upgraded to the G9X cradle.
The Q2's were usually pretty solid...one of their better models. I've got 2 friends that are still using them after several years. When those came out, Cardo addressed a lot of the first series bugs and design flaws.
The originals' platform had a lot of bugs. Some things I discovered-
The rider's set was the master, the passenger's the slave. (For most things, that is...)
BUT- if you wanted the intercoms to stay on all the time and not mute after 10 seconds of silence, that had to be set from the passenger's unit. I ordered 2 new sets, and straight out of the box, both passenger sets failed to charge, and failed to turn on. So, I used the 2 master rider sets together, which gave my passenger the ability to link their cell phone to their unit. Problem then was, even if my passenger was mid-conversation, it would mute out. I was constantly yelling into mine to reopen the com. What a huge drag that was!
Within 2 years, both batteries started failing, and would shut down completely after an hour or so. So, I pitched them in the trash, and went with a G9.
They've had their share of issues, too... but, overall... a huge improvement.
The G9x cradle was another huge improvement. But, my G9's will still drop the com link sometimes... Even when me and a riding buddy are within a couple hundred feet and in line of sight. Not sure why, but it's starting to become a real pain, too. They'll drop out in the middle of one of us speaking!
Sometimes, to reconnect, I have to completely turn my unit off, then back on, then reconnect to solve it.
One thing I've learned about Scala's technology, it isn't w/o flaws... but it is getting better
Never used a Sena, but many rave about them. When I wear these G9's out, I may go that way... especially now that all mfgr's are becoming less proprietary and will link up with other brands.
If your Q2's are giving you trouble, it might be time to do like I did and just invest in an upgrade?
But, I would caution you to really check your next set out... before you buy!
'Cause once you spend your $500 for a pair, find out the issues as a beta tester, it's hard to get a refund... sometimes downright impossible. Then you find yourself having to sell them, and taking a beating. Mfgr's seem to be REAL slow fixing their bugs, too. I found Cardo's tech service dept to be frustrating, at best. They can walk you through how to factory reset, and a few things like that... but when it comes down to design flaws, they live in total denial. They've blamed me, my phone, my GPS...everything they could think of to pass the buck and evade responsibility for their buggy crap.
If these things were less expensive, (say $100/ set) it wouldn't be such a big deal. But it can really suck to pay $500 for a set, and then have a serious issue because the factory rushed the units to market flawed in the quest for money, then gives you the run-around with no real fix!
Yes... I have experienced enough with Cardo's tech support to make me seriously look at Sena next time. That's been my experiences. Not sure if you're experiencing something that can be fixed through a reset or a software update from their site, they're suffering from a software glitch (bug), or they're just failing?
If you haven't already tried, you might be able to resolve it by calling Cardo...maybe not
The Cardo Community sometimes can help with answers/ suggestions.
Kind of odd I have a similar issue with my G9's though, huh?
HTH. Good luck!
