Tire wear on my new 09

Loving the bike, but I am concerned about the tire wear. After 4300 KM I have 2.5 mm front and 3.62 rear on factory Bridgestone tires. Is this normal wear for this tire?
Did 1600 KM this weekend Vancouver BC to Seaside OR., down the 101. Fantastic ride and weather .

FWIW, I just spec'd my pirelli angel st (on a '09 fz1) with about 1700 miles, ~.185" - 4.7mm (rear).  Also spec'd a brand new pr2 rear, ~.250" (~6.3mm).  I do believe the michelins had more rubber to begin with than the pirelli's, but I didn't measure them!@#

I think the wear is typical, directly proportional to your right hand.

The factory Bridgestones don't last long on this bike, especially if you ride aggressively in the twisties.  My front tire was shot at a little over 3400 miles.

The 021 that come on the C14 and FJR are junk. They are know for the front wearing out quicker than the rear. They are also known for wearing out quick anyway. I removed the 021's off my FJR at 1,400 miles after realizing how bad they were already pushing in the turns (and having wore out the set on my C14 in 4,000 miles). The 1,400 mile front was already significantly worn and was wearing funny IMO. The rear again seemed much better. I just happened to give these tires to a friend that has been having harder times (just so he had rubber on his bike) yesterday. So I just got another look at them. It's amazing the difference in the bike once you change those tires. Even at only 1,400 miles!

Unfortunately, that's the general consensus on the OEM tires. I had a similar experience. And you were just asking about wear. As others have mentioned, wait until you change them out and see the difference in handling!

I replaced my front on my 09 at 3500 miles and the rear was replaced at 5500 miles. The rear was still O.K. but I was heading out for a week and didn't want to chance it. I have the 023's and they look great after 4,000 miles so far.

By the way, while we're on the subject, I toasted a Conti-Motion rear in 800 miles this weekend. And it started to chunk at the seam. Stay away from that tire if at all possible.

Same here, less than 2000 mi. and the front is looking pretty goofy, rear tire looks ok. More than 50% of my miles is on twistie roads, the OEM front just will not hold it's shape I guess.

800 miles? Good greif.......I would call the manufacturer and demand at least a partial refund.

I just rode 650 miles on very twistie roads (Arkansas Ozarks), the OEM tires seemed to have good grip and handling but I can't compare until I change tires. I guess i'm in for a pleasant suprise, I don't see how this bike can ride any better than it already does.

It's much better than the injection that you realised you got, the first time KIPASS messes with you!

Everytime i reach for the key on the C14, i flash back to all of Cap n Bob's posts about KIPASS failure.  /shudder!

I dumped the OEM front with a little over 3k for a PR3 because of poor wear (technically there was still plenty of tread, just really flat which cased it to jerk in turns) and it does make the bike feel a lot more like a sport bike.  The rear still looks good so I'm hoping to get a few more thousand out of it.

My PR2's are gonna get a workout this weekend in Arkansas, that is for certain.

I sure did. Got my new tire tonight!
I bought from my Dealer, so they made some phone calls and made it happen. Kinda glad I bought it from them now.
I've never bought a tire from a dealer before this. With service like that, I might buy from them again.

Thanks  for all your comments. I have order a set of PR3. I will put another 1000 KM on the bike and change them both out. Keep the rear for a spare.
