Tire milage ??
« on: July 25, 2013, 08:51:56 PM »
Hello, It has been some time since I have been on a sports bike of any type.
I was just wondering what kind of milage I could expect on the Concours 1400 ?
On my Harley Roadking I can get up to 20000 miles on a back tire with aggressive riding with the Michelin Commanders. About 12000 on a Dunlap.
What are some good tire options for the Connie ?

LOL!  Car tire??? I guess "aggressive" on a Harley is 90-year-old grandmother driving on a Concours ;)

(Expect less than half that with good tires on a C14, maybe a 1/3 of that with with "aggressive" riding)

Yes, On my VTX1800 I could only get 8000 miles on a back tire with Metzler 880 and about 9,000 with Elite 3.
Brakes also only lasted 8,000 on that bike.

The personality of bike rides on the tires. Sounds corney, but when my bike was new, it felt fat and I was afraid to lean it it at all in corners, keeping it upright all the time. It just felt like I would lay it out if I did.
Got rid of the stock tires and felt like a different bike. The PR3's made it fun to ride. Plus the cost of them is less than my hospital copay.

Next year I'm going to try a 200 55 Commander
I've got about 4,000 more miles to ride on 190 50 P3
have a 190 55 P3 waiting to go on next, I wanted to get a good feel of the P 3's before I tried a 200 Commander.
I've not heard of anyone using a Commander yet, the 200 / 55 is a radial, most Commanders are not.
Going to stick with a P3 on the front.

w.t.f.

 this again.
I just replaced my stock Bridgestones yesterday at 6,500.  My tire guy said I cut it too close.  Most everyone in here dislikes the bridgestones, but I thought they handled o.k..  Based on the opinions of others with far greater miles than myself, I decided to go with the PR2s.  The PR3s were above my budget.  If you ride a lot in wet weather, the PR3 would be worth the extra money.

I just replaced my stock . . .

Jezus I can't type today!  I didn't mean to make it sound like "a crap another tire thread", my first post didn't take so I retyped it and was complaining about my own mistake.  I better give this up for today.

The original tires on the C14 are of very poor quality.  My OEM rear tire is completely bald in the middle after about 5600 miles.  >:( The front one is wearing funny in the middle.  And I do not ride aggressively.

I got 8,200 miles out of the front OEM tire and 10,000 miles out of the back. That was a lot of long trips and fun twisty roads in PA and WV. Lots of highway miles on the trips though.

About what I had on the OE BTs as well.  I thought they handled great, but I came from a C10 with Dunlop D205s.  I guess it depends on how you ride, on what roads, and what you came from.

Yes, but what do you think of them NOW [that you presumably tried other tires]? ( You kinda left out that part :)  )

I don't remember that far back...but I'm thinking that I can't tell the difference...  I'm just an unfeeling sod!  :yikes: .  Naw, just kidding...  I don't remember a thing.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
