k&n air filter engine sound
« on: June 09, 2013, 06:40:43 AM »
I just did the plugs, air filter and tighten the exhaust nuts yesterday day.  I started it up and it runs and drive like normal.  Got rid of the exhaust tick sound from the loose header bolts.  The only thing bothering me it seams to be a bit noisier at idle and low rpm/speed riding.  Goes away as engine speed is increased.  Normal of k&n air filters.

That's the sound of dirt being sucked into your engine.   :rotflmao:

LOL Bandit. I'm glad you had the guts to say what most were probably thinking anyway!

Neither was I... I was really wondering if I popped a vacuum line off or something.  I did have to vacuum a bunch of leaves off the top of the motor.  Just making sure I didn't break something.

On a second note I have vehicles and bikes that have gone over 100k miles with k&n filters with no side effects.

I have a K&N filter and never noticed any difference in sound.

I have a K&N air filter as well and no difference in sound until I got the Guhl reflash. I could definitely hear the engine sucking in air then.

What side effects are you looking for? More than normal wear on the engine won't be noticeable. Get an oil analysis and you'll see that your oil has elevated levels of silicon (sand).

Seems like nobody is getting extra noise.  I guess I have to take it apart and check to make sure I didn't knock anything off.
