Helmet review FWIW
« on: April 26, 2013, 01:16:45 PM »
I finally retired my old, stinky and broken (thanks, Dickthecat) Shoei TZ-1 and went shopping for a new lid. After trying on many with various features, one that stood out was a Shoei modular with flip-down visor. I really liked it but too much $$ for my budget. So, I settled on a HJC CL-16 mainly because it fit and was priced right.
1. Ventilation is much better than my old Shoei. (38 deg. this morning, shield all the way down and no fogging)
2. The visor adjusts/fits/seals nicely.
3. I can't say it's any noisier or quieter that the Shoei. (I use earplugs anyway)
4. Fits my noggin nicely. No pressure points. (I have ovalhead and it took a while for my Shoei to settle in)
5. The d-rings on the strap are a little slimmer than the Shoei making slightly harder to strap/unstrap. no biggie.
6. Finish isn't top-grade but that doesn't bother me.
7. Doesn't stink like my old one but when it eventually does, I can take the liner out and wash it. (couldn't with the Shoei)
Hope this was helpful to anyone shopping for gear.

I have the HJC CL-16 and have over 5000 miles with it.  I find a lot of wind noise.  This could be caused by the sena Bluetooth.  It only took a summer for it to start to smell.  I try and wash it regularly.

I have been considering the HJC RPHA Max.  It is really light and modular.  The price is less than the Neotec.

My CL-15 , after 6 yrs, had finally lost its good fit feeling. And dropping it down some concrete steps didin't do it much good either.  So I got a CL-16 for my troubles. It is 2 weeks old as of this post, has all the attributes that TQ explained, and the fit, an XXXL is perfect for my melon.
Verdict, and very nice helmet, with excellent specsnd ab even better fit.
Ride safe all,
Greg

Glad you guys like the HJC CL-16...I'm ordering one next Thursday, replacing my CL-15 that I've had for many moons, just like Pfloydgad...

I use an N90 Nolan for 90% of my riding (got an old green 3/4 for round town).  The Nolan's great, but perhaps a bit stuffy for long hot days.  I've been thinking maybe a dualsport helmet (sort of a motocross lid with a visor).  I presume they have good/better ventilation around the face.  Anyone using one?

I've wondered the same thing too.

This is the helmet I bought when I bought my 2010. I like the carbon fiber helmets. Fits great. I've owned it a couple years and still feels great. I paid $200.

CL16 is definitely a nice helmet for the money. I do like the scorpion exo-400 line myself. They are consistently sub $100 on clearance in a variety of stores.
