Please Help!!! Problem after valve adjustment.
« on: May 17, 2013, 05:51:47 PM »
Please help me again, I'm completely lost!!!
I've been posting on here the last couple of days, and I have another problem... I did a valve adjustment, change spark plugs, took carburetor off to change o-rings on cooling log.
Now it idles perfect, and revs up great in neutral, but when I put it in gear and let out on clutch it dies. If I rev it way up 4k+ it will move but it runs like something is dragging it back. I have a top speed of 65 with throttle wide open. The RPM's stay in the normal range for the speed I'm going.
I took it to a friend's house (he's a car mechanic) we took it back apart, re adjust the valves, put it back together and it still does the same thing.
All the hoses and wiring is connected. Am I missing something?

Disregard! I wasn't thinking yesterday. The manual is wrong and I knew it but still did it, crossed spark plug wires #3 and #4.... The manual says the order is 1,2,4,3 which makes no sense. the actual order is 1,2,3,4. What I won't do when I'm wore out and trying to rush. Oh well, lesson learned.
Thanks

the manual is correct. Firing order and cylinder order are 2 different things. cylinder order is 1,2,3,4.
cylinder firing  order is 1,2,4,3
one  coil fires 1 and 4  and the other coil fires 2 and 3. They should be marked with numbers on the spark plug wires.

I was going to say, put your sidestand up if it dies when putting it in gear, but thats not the problem.

Actually, if it still dies when you click it into gear (after the firing order is sorted out) it is probably the side stand (kick stand) switch sticking.  The switch is mounted near the pivot of the side stand on the left side of the bike. get some penetrating spray lube and spray it directly on the plunger of the switch and inside the rubber boot if you can. The plunger of the switch should spring out with the side stand up. HTH
