Brake Judder

Just bought a new 2012 Connie and I am having a problem with the brakes. As I slow down and just before coming to a complete stop I get a judder or flutter from the brakes. Brought the bike to my dealer and he thinks it is a warped rotor. He says it will be covered under the warrantee. Do you think he is right ? What do you guys think ? Thanks

Finally someone writes in about a problem the dealer says is covered. Unless you have a reason for not letting the dealer work on your bike, I say hurry on over to the dealer and let him fix it.  :)

I would think if it is only immediately prior to stop it is not a warped rotor.  You would, I would think, feel that at higher MPH.

My guess is pads not bedded to rotors.  If you resurface rotors and scuff pads, you will probably be OK.  Or not.  Worth what it cost you.  But I'd be curious as to the results if you did that.

I had the same issue straight out of the box.

Mine went away after some use and heavy braking. My guess is the brake pads and rotors haven't fully married yet.

Try a series of aggressive braking conditions.

I have about 500 miles on the bike. ( Is that enough miles to break the brakes in ? )It is at the dealers now and he will let me know about the brakes by Saturday.

500 should be enough. If the pads/rotors glazed for some reason it could cause a stutter. A good cleaning would cure it. Let us know what the dealer says.

I had the same thing happen on my '11. I rubbed a green scotch brite pad on the rotors and it fixed it.

The dealer said the bike is ready and they said the rotors are good. I'll try the green scotchbrite pad cleaning routine and see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanks !!

- a couple of high speed stops will probably sort you out.

- and remember to turn the 7 bobbins on each side which hold the brake disc to the carrier. You can turn them using a 10 mm drive bit. They're invariably seized up.
