I hate U.P.S.

and do not understand why so many on-line retailers continue to stick with them. More than a week (so far) to get a pair of boots delivered. A lot more than a week, but a lot of that is the retailer's delayed shipping (no glowing recommendation from me so far...). Priority mail is cheaper and faster -- does UPS give retailers a big kick-back or something?

Ah, you've hit a (Canadian) nerve.

When a US seller ships into Canada, UPS graciously adds a huge markup called 'brokerage fee' to the amount it charges the seller and collects it from the Canadian purchaser.

Once burned like this, I have religiously specified USPS or I won't buy.

In short - yes. UPS makes shipping very, very, easy for retailers. Drop ship - no problem, they pick up daily, bill monthly, etc.

Congress will not allow USPS to run efficiently.

UPS usually does a pretty efficient job.  They could have sent it by USPS.

I actually hate both UPS and the USPS, having had both mess me up.  Ironically, UPS and the USPS work together, at least in my neck of the woods.

As do FedEx and USPS.  FedEx has a service called "SmartPost" where FedEx delivers to the Post Office and the Post office delivers it to your house.  UPS has "Mail Innovations" which is similar.  They both suck as far as delivery time, but they are cheap.

I can say with certainty and with aplomb that I like Fedex much better than the other two...

FedEx home delivery is subcontracted to individuals. Try holding them accountable. From my experience they do everything they can to not deliver if you are in a remote area. That is why FE and UPS subcontract with USPS. PO has to go that way every day even if there is no mail.

Knock on wood.  Never had an issue with them.

I too was surprised to receive a SmartPost envelope containing windshield nuts last week.  Was expecting UPS package and found USPS mailer instead.  Just glad to finally get the nuts to put my windshield back on the newly painted, newly fixed fairing.

Not around here, FedEx is the worst. USPS sent me a shipment from Portland OR.in the morning and it was at my door the next day at 6 pm in Grand Rapids Mi. That's fast!!

I order new Chippewa boots from Stompers on Thursday, the 4th of April. They drug their feet on shipping until late on the following Tuesday (April 9th) and the boots finally arrived quite late in the day on the 16th. I just know that if Priority Mail had been an option, they would have been here on Friday the 12th, on hand for my weekend.
And wouldn't have actually cost any more to transport.

It sucks to be "U".  My stuff gets delivered sometimes to a house with the same house number, totally different street name... not even close, by the "U"s.  The guy that lives at that house get's his panties in a wad, like it's my fault.  LOL!!!!  8)
