9mm vs .45 vs Rifle A Dr's View of Gunshot Wounds

This is an interesting discussion by an anesthesiologist on gunshot wounds.

Be warned: there are some graphic photos in this video.

Excellent.  Well-presented.  That should be required viewing by EVERYONE not just "gun people".  I like how he points out that the Hollywood stereotype of a gunfight is b-s.  Except then the bad guys might not be so afraid of our defensive pistols when they learn they aren't as deadly as most people think.  HHhmmmmm.

Two things I take away from it that sound counter-intuitive and require further study.

1)  If hollowpoints don't penetrate enough to get to vital organs, then are we not better off with solids, FMJ's or solid leads?  I carry Hydra-Shocks and Silvertips depending on caliber.

2)  If a crouched stance will lead to a bullet going into your chest, traveling DOWNWARD through your body and into your abdomen, then would you be better off to stand up straight and get a shorter, less damaging, possibly through-and-through wound channel?  The advantage certainly would be presenting less of a target, obviously.
A life undreamed is a waste.  A dream unlived is a sin.

Great, informative video.  Interesting from a physicians perspective.

Excellent discussion about tissue injury and mechanism of death between handguns and rifles. Kinda shows that New York's new gun restrictions to only 7 rounds in a magazine may result in an increase of innocent victims dying if they depend upon their handguns for defense. Better get at least a 12 gauge shotgun, at least for home defense. Not many villains could survive 5 hits with 00 buckshot!
Handgun= shoot at abdomen until empty- liver-spleen-great vessels...

I don't believe that was the gist of it. His point was that handgun bullets do not have the velocity and energy of long guns. The amount of damage is limited to a smaller area and the way that it kills is that the shot needs to be more precise to create the needed damage such as hitting a blood vessel or a major organ. You also are not as likely to penetrate all the way thru.
