gerbings permanent dual controller installed
« on: October 23, 2012, 03:10:48 PM »
Finally got the install done. Thanks to ZG who gave me the idea for this project and for pointing me to the other forum where a member documented his install with pictures.(i like pictures)
The hardest part for me was getting myself to drill the holes in the very expensive plastic!

Good job!  I used a portable controller for a year before mounting a panel mount also.  The panel mount makes a HUGE difference in how easy it is to use the heated clothing.  Much easier to run one wire from the vest to the powerlet, and much easier to see what you are doing when changing the setting.   I'm trying to figure out where to mount one now on my new BMW.  It does not have as good of a mounting location.

gerbings controller update...
Everything was working fine in my garage and i tested to make sure my gerbings got warm when i plugged them in. A few days later i took the bike out for a spin with my gerbings plugged in (socks, pants, jacket liner and gloves), BUT not turned on, ie the control knobs were both in the off position. Stopped for breakfast and wanted to show my riding buddy my new and fancy set up, particularly the little lights (i like the little lights), but when i turned the control knobs on..... nothing, nada, zip, No power. Fuse was blown.

When i got home i put in a new 15amp fuse and checked all the connections, making sure nothing was frayed or kinked. Then i plugged in my garments one at a time and in every combination (gloves, then gloves plus jacket....) and everything got warm. I wiggled the connections one at a time to see if i could get the fuse to blow again, but couldn't.  Battery connections are tight as are the ground connections.

Gerbing is sending me a new complete kit.

I think that's a feature of Gerbings.
