Star Wars VII: The Fandom Menace
Oh, and HAN SHOT FIRST!
Damn straight Han shot first!
And the guys chasing E.T. had guns, not Walkie Talkies... but I digress.
The Trek Franchise re-releasing classic Trek with 'redone' special effects is another sore point of mine. Sometimes it looks OK, but most of the time it seems like the guys replacing the model work with CGI work simply weren't trying that hard to make it look compelling...
Next thing you know, they will re-release the classic Forbidden Planet with new CGI effects. And yes, supposedly there is a Forbidden Planet remake in the pipeline.
Anyways, after the torture that was Episode III, I personally think Disney has a rather low bar to beat. The effects in III were nice, but effects alone don't make a compelling movie, and when you KNOW how it ends beforehand (Anikan becoming Darth), and the writers go pretty much exactly down a more or less predictable path, and can't even bother to mix things up a bit, well you end up with a movie that I still say "That's over two hours of my life I'm not getting back..."
I did try to watch it again recently on Network TV, and it wasn't much better the second time around. Fortunately, I had distactions to bounce between. Some people really enjoyed III, though, so to each their own.
