Moving to Nashville
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:02:10 PM »
The family and I will be moving to Nashville, TN in about a week.  How many Concours folks do we have?

There is a Concours gathering on the north end of the Natchez Trace this weekend.  If you can make it by there you will have a better idea.

We'll be moving that weekend but thanks for the info.  And yes, I'll have to check out the restaurant.  We last lived there about 9 years ago, but never heard of that one.

East TN and Western NC mountains!

I was there this past weekend.  Of course I rode the Connie 700 miles 2-up to the meet point, fortunately you won't have to go through all that to enjoy

Brentwood Connie owner here.  If we don't end up in Knoxville this weekend, I might be at the Trace ride.

Very cool! We will be around the Smyrna area. I'll be keeping an eye out for get togethers. But priority one will be a good job!

What is your field and what kind of job are you looking for, if you don't mind me asking?

Welcome to the neighborhood.  I live in Franklin.  We'll all have to get together one of these weekends and ride.  There's plenty of good riding, and good food, in the area.

Honestly, I have a weird resume. I worked for a job corps (social services would be a fairly good description) and DFAS (cubicle doing audits) the last 8 years before my wife and I tried being houseparents at Milton Hershey School. My degree is behavioral science so the job corps and houseparenting were a pretty good fit. But I'm willing to try anything. I've done warehouse/factory work when I was young, and I've been an AGE mechanic in the Air Force/Air Guard for 16 yrs. We've been here almost a week and nothing so far. Going to try the veterans rep at the unemployment office on Monday.

That sounds fun. As soon as I have a steady income I might be able to enjoy it!  ;)

Good luck on your search. I'm in IT, but I can keep an ear out in case I hear of anything that might be interesting.

We definitely need to get some folks together for bite to eat sometime.

Never heard of the Milton Hershey School so I looked it up.  Interesting.  Has it had a profound impact on those orphans it was designed to help?

Most of the kids today are not orphaned, but must come from an impoverished background.  The impact really depends on the student and their sponsor (Sponsor is the person who brought them to the school and is responsible for their care/decisions).  There are some incredible success stories of kids who completely reversed the cycle of poverty and went on to do incredible things.  Then others either don't make it through or go right back to poverty and their kids end up at the school!  The school gives the kids the opportunity, it's what they do with it that makes the difference.  Houseparenting there is a good job and they desperately need folks.  If you like working with your spouse and the idea of making a difference in a child's life.......then you should look into it.  The pay is good and your housing, utilities and food are included.  It just wasn't a good fit for my wife and I.  Things changed for us when our daughter came home from college (with baby lol) and the school changed some rules on church attendance (a lack of) that we did not feel comfortable with.
