Throttle Cables
« on: April 03, 2013, 08:51:06 AM »
Hello,

I took the clamp on the handlebar apart to lube the throttle cables and everything sprung out. I can't figure out how to get it back together correctly and wondered if anyone had a picture of what the cables should look like in this housing before it is screwed back together. I already spent some time looking around for pictures, but I couldn't find any. I also looked in my Kawasaki manual and it does not have a picture. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I figured out how they go. I do have another problem that started me on the process of messing with the cables. The throttle moves smoothly, but if pulled to full throttle it locks. To get it to unlock you have to push the grip forward very hard. I noticed that the bracket that the cables attach to on the carb had rotated forward and when the throttle gets pulled all the way the bracket binds with throttle assembly. I pushed it back with a screwdriver, but it still wants to rotate forward. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how do you tighten down that bracket to keep it from moving?

Look at the bottom of the bracket for a small bolt and nut or screw. I believe it is there from looking at mine last time I had the carbs off. On the cables did you adjust the slack? I had adjusted mine too tight and the throttle didn't want to close all the way.

Thanks for the reply. I adjusted the cables so they are where they are supposed to be. The bracket is rotating forward probably from the vibration. I pushed the bracket back and the throttle worked fine. I did find a screw to tighten down the bracket, but I cannot see how to tighten it with the carbs in. Is this possible? I jammed a piece of metal against the bracket to keep it from rotating forward, but I need to fix it correctly. I don't want to take the carbs out just to tighten one screw. The carbs have never been out, so I would have to replace all the rock hard connections.
