Not sure this is true but it is fitting:

Message from the family of Neil Armstrong: "For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink."

I met Mr. Armstrong twice in my life. Once as a wide eyed 10th grader, and then 2 yrs ago in Wapakoneta where his Museum is. Quite a few years had passed, but this guy was just as plesent and personable as ever. I told him about our meeting way back in 1972, he remembered coming to our High School, and even the unusual namesake.  Urbana, High School, home of the Hillclimbers. You guessed it, the school sits attop a large hill. His hand shake was less, but his spirit was strong.
RIP Mr. Armstrong, you earned it.
Ride safe all,
Greg

We had B&W TV only, so we never thought the grainy image was anything out of the ordinary! Surprised they haven't "colorized" the old footage to appeal to the younger crowds that simply don't know or can appreciate history and what  B&W was, simply the only thing in town.

I remember that evening back in 1969 as we watched in awe. Like Conrad said: "God's speed Neil Armstrong"

He didn't die of old age, he was just tired of pushing around that huge wheelbarrow he needed for his huge set of brass balls.
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Gemini and Apollo Missions: David Bowie - A Space Oddity

I don't think he had a set of those.  He was doing the job he was trained to do as any American serviceman would do at the time, albeit somewhat more loftier than many.  I salute all those in the space program (civilian and military) and NASA itself and especially those that gave their lives in the line of duty to push that final frontier.

Apollo 1 - Virgil 'Gus' Grissom, Edward H. White, Roger B. Chaffee

Challenger - Francis R. Scobee, Michael J. Smith, Ellison S. Onizuka, Judith A Resnik, Ronald E. McNair, Christa McAuliffe, and Gregory B. Jarvis

Columbia - Rick D. Husband, William C. McCool, Michael P. Anderson, Ilan Ramon, Kalpana Chawla, David M. Brown, and Laurel Blair Salton Clark

To any young kid growing up during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, all of the astronauts were our heroes....and still are today.  But they were doing their jobs and they did them well.

Off topic but kind of related in a sad sort of way to us older guys who remember all this stuff.

My wife was at work and a woman stated quite seriously how ironic it was that just after he turned in his medals for winning the Tour De France, Neil Armstrong died from all the steroids he used to win the races. My wife tried to explain how she was confusing Neil with Lance and she wouldn't have anything to do with it.

Sad.

I wanted to find out where the funeral was, I imagine it will be either Arlington or Ohio, we were talking about attending in uniform if it was Ohio. All our dept. flags and mine at home are at half-staff.

Private ceremony with family only in Cincinnati, OH on the 31st, date of the second full moon of the month, a "blue moon". A fitting send off.
