Positive Dealership News
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:23:11 AM »
I avoid dealerships whenever possible when it comes to buying parts mostly because their pricing is severely out of line with competitive sources - especially tires. I stopped in a multi-brand dealership on the way home from work to see if I can get some gloves and found out they have a price-match policy on new tires. Well, I need a rear Avon (this is not a tire thread), so after some interwebs searches, I showed, they matched, I bought. They will also get the mount/balance job. They will also get me back in their door to buy a helmet and gear for my son.
Hmmm, a business that understands business.
The dealership is located in northern NJ. I will post the business name if someone requests it.

Nice.  The dealerships I've seen match the competitive online prices for the tire then make you bend-ovuh on install.

I've seen installs as high as $70 a wheel at a stealership.

In all fairness, the stealer I know here offered to do mine for $35 if i buy the tires there.  Still a crappy deal though

Sounds like a good reasonable place.  A couple years ago the local Kaw dealer refused to install my new Micheln Pilot GT's because they aren't listed in the OEM parts manual.  I took the wheels in and they let them sit for a week nd didn't say anything until I went to get them and then they said they would not do it.  They will ONLY install tires that are listed in the parts manual, which means for our Connies, no Avons, no Michelins, no bias belts, etc.  That's just one of the many reasons I do it myself.

I think times have changed since then, our stealerships in Tampa stock and install PR3's

I bought my last set of tires a few years back at my local dealer cause I wanted to keep my money local, plus, they were at least $30 a tire less than online, I told them this as they didn't know, and that was one of the reasons I came to them. Guess what happened? Yep. Next time they were the same price as online. I'll still go to them first to see what the prices are.

Just bought a replacement Michelin PR3 190-55 from one of the local dealers, $190. They had the 190-50 for $180. Added $30 to install on the wheel that I carried in, which was a little higher than some other places, but still not bad. Of course, had to pay sales tax and $3 disposal fee on the old tire, but the tire's cost was still less than Murph's.

No issues with installing a Michelin and no issue installing the 55 rear tire.
