2005 Kawasaki Concours C10 with 27,5xx miles - $2,100.
I’m in the mid-Michigan area. Fly or bus in – ride it home. Its ready to go if you are.
I’ve tried to list everything I know about the bike below. In case I haven’t covered something, feel free to ask questions, preferably within the thread so everyone can read the Q&A.
Several links to pics are given at the end. I have even more pics available.
=================================
This '05 had a right hand low speed, low side slide January 2012. All outer and inner fairing and bags (left and right) were cracked, IMO due to the cold weather. Insurance Company totaled out the bike to the original owner due to the high OEM replacement costs of the complete fairing, mirrors, inner fairing and bags.
Title is clear with no liens.
The damages were plastic parts and very small ripple dents at the front of the ’05 tank where the inner fairings came back into it a bit. Tank is still perfectly usable but was replaced with the ’88 due to paint color.
An ’88 with an engine problem became available as a body parts donor and the project was born.
This was my 2nd C10 restoration project. It was a labor of love over the winter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anything I did was done as if I were going to keep the bike. I seriously considered keeping it and selling the 2000 with 65,xxx miles on it.
The project is now completed. The ‘05 now has a complete '88 body and bags. What was once Pearl Luster Beige is now Candy Persimmon Red.
Exhaust cans were replaced with pre ‘93 versions with the brushed aluminum finish on cans.
’05 seat (newer stepped style) was retained.
’88 fender was mounted by modifying the ’05 fender brace / bracket to receive the older style fender.
Right side rider peg and bracket were replaced.
The ‘05’s seat sub-frame was slightly bent, causing the fender to be out of line with the rear wheel by about an inch. This bike had been like that for several years. It was replaced with the ‘88’s sub-frame and is spot on now.
’88 Belly pan was modified killing 2 birds with one stone. There were a couple spots with some scorching at the rear of the belly pan, probably from the ‘88’s crossover pipe. This mod removed the scorching, AND now means the belly pan does NOT have to be removed for each oil change. I did this mod to my 2000 C10 years ago, for the oil change benefit and it is handy.
The '88 fairing stay was modified to accommodate the '94 and newer inner fairings and gauges. The original '05 gauges were retained so mileage is exactly accurate. The interior looks like new as all inner fairing parts were replaced, purchased from other bikes being parted out on ebay and craigslist.
Tires are a set of oversized Dunlop E3’s, purchased by the owner in Tomah 2 years ago. They were the only thing available that would fit at the time, so that’s what went on. Tread is at 60 – 70% life left.
The larger tires slow the steering down and give a harsh ride in my opinion. If it were mine, the tires would be replaced soon regardless of remaining tread.
The bike looks great and as a part of the project has also had:
- Valve adjustment
- Carb sync
- Air filter cleaned and oiled
- Oil and filter change
The bike is bone stock mechanically. No carb or cam mods, no farkles. I’ve put about 150 miles on it. It runs strong, drives great, brakes great.
I’ve known this bike for a number of years, having ridden next to it with its original owner to the last 3 COG Nationals. The bike is mechanically solid. I would be perfectly comfortable keeping it for myself and riding it anywhere and everywhere.
There are a some minor cosmetic issues and variances - but you have to be looking for them.
They are:
- '88 body had 50,241 miles on it. There are normal signs of use and age in places on the finish, meaning it is not in show room new condition. From normal viewing distances its fine. Refer to the pics.
- A shallow BB sized dent on top front right of tank.
- The bags aren’t perfect cosmetically but they 7-8 out of 10. No cracks. They had greyed areas from age and sun. Mother’s Back To Black did an amazing job of restoring the finished look.
- Some scratching in a 1" x 1.5" concentrated area on the left side cover where it looks like the tank was attempted to be removed / reinstalled with side cover in place. I've seen this on other C10's too. See ’88 Before Pics below.
- The instrument cluster is raised up an even 3/8" closer to the rider than stock. I had to shim it (evenly) up a bit for it to fit the modified stay. Its not almost flush with the upper inner fairing shroud like other C10's. It looks good - just not completely stock.
- Front fender has about a 1.5” crack at the very front edge. It has been plastic welded from the underside. Fender is solid and functional but the crack is still visible.
- Front fender has a dull area on its finish between the forks where the ’93 and older style fork brace / bracket was for 24 years. The newer style forks will not accommodate this piece, which necessitated the use of the ’05 bracket / brace as already mentioned. You have to work at it to be in position to see this area, but it is there. There are pics in the links below.
- Right side of upper fairing has about a 3” crack as if the bike leaned or fell over part way against something in a garage. Its down and below the turn signal in the middle of the flat angled part of the fairing. Its been plastic welded from the back side but is visible if you are looking for it. You can see this in the ’88 Before Pics.
