I don't know, Kawasaki's maintenance interval numbers seem to be bizarre.
Plugs - 7,500 miles (really....)
Oil - 7,500 miles (sound a tad long to me, especially for mineral oil)
Final drive - 7,500 miles (do you see a trend going on here?)
For anyone who missed it , there was a thread on here where a few owners think its perfectly fine to shift into sixth gear at 35 mph. they think they arent stressing their motor and drivetrain and cited the manual saying 34 mph is ok for 6th gear. i just read over that engine lugging thread and it doesnt appear that anyone on this thread was involved so sorry for the thread hijack.

Both threads indicate that following the owner's manual will not harm your bike, but it may not be necessary to follow everything in the manual directly.(we brain surgeons stick together )
